Squid Game is, based on your own varying ability to suspend disbelief and ignore plot holes, an enjoyable romp that does its job of keeping you on your bum with your eyes glued to the screen for its roughly 8 hours of runtime.
For those people who have a Netflix account and are still on the fence about whether you’d like it or not just answer one simple question, ‘Do you like dramas with a lot of violence and gore?’
If yes, jump right in! If no, or you’re just burned out on violent and depressing media, Squid Game is not going to do anything special for you.
Don’t get the wrong idea. Squid Game is topping Netflix charts for good reasons.
It is well directed, has a lot of visual flairs, great shot compositions, a memorable soundtrack, and amazing performances all around from all of the actors involved (except for whoever they got to play the MVPs). This especially goes for the fantastic performance by the actress, Kim Joo-Ryeong, who plays Player no. 212. She steals every scene she’s in and I couldn’t help but love hating that wretched woman who seemed to purposely be put there by the game master to make the lives of everyone on that Island just that little bit more torturous.
On a technical level, no one can take anything away from how solid Squid Game is. But if you’re going into it with expectations of some deep meaningful story or thought-provoking social commentary, look elsewhere.
A lot of people have been talking about Squid Game’s commentary on capitalism and the true value of money vs having real happiness. But these themes are often skin deep at best, and only serve as a means to add flavor to the personal drama between the characters and to make their backstories sympathetic.
Makes sense, doesn’t it? If all the desperate people that were partaking in these dehumanizing death games for the mere chance at having more money than they could spend were all irredeemable scumbags or criminals the audience wouldn’t have anyone to cheer for or get emotionally invested in, now would they?
The violence, the viscera, and the gross commodification of human life all just add up to give an extra cheap shock and gross-out factor to the viewers, no different from any movie from the Slasher or Horror genre.
A perfect example of this would be the now infamous organ harvesting bits from the story. I don’t think even mentioning this can be considered a spoiler for anyone reading this as it was probably one of the first things you heard about from people trying to get you to watch the series.
A shocking and disturbing revelation when we first find out about it, sure. But one that opens up to a lot of questions and plot holes if you spend more than a second to think about the logistics behind all of it.
When and how did this secret group of guards get together to put this whole secret operation underway? It was already shown in the show at that point that revealing your face or breaking anonymity among the guards was forbidden, with the penalty being death. Even when they were by themselves they kept referring to each other by their assigned code numbers, showing that they didn’t personally know each other. Heck, the reason the undercover cop even accidentally stumbled upon their operation was that he took the mask off one of their members who got publicly executed in front of the other guards after his face got revealed and the anonymity rule got breached. So no, they didn’t know what each other looked or sounded like. This is never explained or elaborated on.
How did they manage to build that faux cremator with the trap door that dropped the bodies straight to their secret underground organ harvesting basement? How did they keep it a secret from the ring leaders? Even if they had a person on the inside that tampered with the camera feeds, wouldn’t the other guards notice that a few of them went missing for long hours at a time to both help with the organ harvesting and then immediately swim off the island to deliver them to some team who was waiting outside, off the island? This is especially nonsensical considering the curfew and strict rules and guidelines that the guards themselves had to follow as terms of their employment.
Why would they do something as dumb as putting their surgeon, the most important person that the entire operation relied on, in the death game itself? Even if they kept giving him answers on what the next game was going to be he still had a fair chance of failing his game and getting killed. Especially the team-based ones.
And again, the presence of the surgeon himself opens up another slimy can of worms.
How did the guards approach him and specifically make sure to recruit him into the games? He couldn’t possibly have been a previous winner of the games or he would already have had all the money he ever needed to not be involved in something as risky as this. Again the guards never took off their masks around him or speak to each other by name. Meaning he didn’t know any of them either. Why would any person agree to do something so life-risking with a bunch of people he never knew or trusted to begin with?
And this is not even getting into other plot contrivances that come up when one stops to think about the messy way the undercover cop sneaks his way onto and roams around the island, or the final big character reveal that happens in the last episode that almost retroactively ruined the story for me.
So please, from all of this, don’t think of Squid Game as some sort of deep thinker’s series. It does fall apart when you analyze or think too much about different important plot points that come up throughout the show.
If you’re going to see it, know that you’re getting into a show that is on a technical level superbly put together, has plenty of high-stakes drama, and is very shocking and gratuitous for the thrill of being shocking and gratuitous. And hey, if Squid Game winds up being a portal for you to start enjoying a lot of other superb pieces of Korean media like ‘Old Boy’ or ‘I saw the Devil’, that’d be pretty swell too.

After this prati prasava episode, I started keenly observing the discussions that are happening. I felt that prati prasava as psychological surgery has given a new life to Suman, I think she is really lucky to have gotten this done from you directly.
That would have healed her wounds completely and she is a new born now.

Today, I went to a big name jeweler in Bengaluru. For check-in, they ask the vaccination status and I said I'm not vaccinated. There was commotion and she checked with her higher ups, and asked me to go ahead with my shopping. I don't know why they have this questionnaire for shopping. Not sure how the data is being used, Captain. If they have no intent of keeping out unvaccinated, why bother?

DeleteA lot of stupidity is done in this world just to “look good”. Shops do this to look like they’re providing a “safe” space to shop. But they won’t lose any business for this.
Some states in US Canada say they won’t let people inside restaurants and bars without seeing vaccination proof. But they don’t even check. People go in straight away.
These things are as meaningless as the NO SMOKING signboard outside the local pan beeda shop where people do it anyway.

I had to take the vaccine because of the company so took covaxin. I am doing suryanamaskara and doing bhramari to avoid any side effect. I did not want to take the vaccine but I was coerced. If anyone tells he/she is not vaccinated, I support them.

Does anyone still believe the story that Donald Trump colluded with Vladimir Putin to win the 2016 presidential election? If so, special counsel John Durham’s indictment of Igor Danchenko should put their minds at rest.
The 39-page document by Special counsel John Durham is rich with detail on the origins, use and abuse of the Russian collusion story as a means to undermine the 2016 Trump campaign.
Danchenko is identified as the person who collected information “that ultimately formed the core of the allegations” in the infamous dossier by Christopher Steele. Danchenko was indicted on lying to the FBI in 2017 about who he was working with and where his information came from.

The indictment exposes former Hillary Clinton aide Charles Dolan, identified only as “PR Executive-1,” as an important Danchenko source. Dolan allegedly fed Danchenko information he claimed he had obtained when he “had a drink with a GOP friend,” but later admitted he had fabricated the story. The indictment also shows that PR Executive-1 was an important source for reporting by The Washington Post and the Times of London when the Steele dossier scandal broke in January 2017.
Fusion GPS had been retained by Clinton campaign lawyer Marc Elias, whom law professor Johnathan Turley has called a "potential apex target” of the Durham probe. Clinton supporters in the government slipped the information to sympathetic operatives in the Justice Department, who used it to mount a spying campaign on Trump. And the American news media spread the rumors, which undermined the Trump presidency.
As early as October 2017, The Post reported that the “Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee helped fund research that resulted in a now-famous (Steele) dossier containing allegations about President Trump’s connections to Russia and possible coordination between his campaign and the Kremlin.”
As was later revealed, the dossier became the basis for Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrants against Trump aide Carter Page, and unprecedented FBI surveillance on the Trump campaign before the election.
Accusations were a political dirty trick
By 2017, it was clear that “Russian collusion” was just a political dirty trick. But the narrative was firmly embedded in the liberal mind, and the wheels of the Washington investigative apparatus were turning, so the false story lived on.
Special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation was supposed to have been the grand reckoning for Trump, the comprehensive exposure of the colluders and how they undermined American democracy. Mueller’s 2019 report was long on how Moscow attempted to interfere in the 2016 election. But on the matter of collusion with the Trump campaign, Mueller came up empty, and for good reason. The collusion never existed.
Now the Durham investigation is laying bare the extent of the conspiracy to derail the Trump campaign and thwart his presidency. The probe has so far led to the arrest of three people accused of spreading the false Russia conspiracy theory.
This is good news, and hopefully more indictments will follow. It is important to understand how operatives connected to the Hillary Clinton campaign conspired to harness the political system to undermine American democracy and weaken a legitimately elected president.

DeleteGo back and read the sanatana dharma post where Shraddha is defined and explained. Once you do that you’ll realize that the TWO QUESTIONS asked by Captain to Free Spirit were actually one single question!
When answered truthfully The answer for both would be a YES YES or NO NO. No other possibility. Captain said she is free to decline.
Having said this, I think Free Spirit answered Yes to 1 without thinking, or I don’t know for 2 without thinking.

He named it Aotearoa, Land of the Long White Cloud. The indigenous people called the Maoris, that now make up about 15% of the population of 3.5 million, had a complex social structure of tribes, sub-tribes and clans, along with internal divisions made up of Nobility, the priests, and worker classes, which is
similar to the Vedic varnashrama system of organized society.
In 1769, Captain James Cook made initial contact with the Maoris, but it was extremely violent. But he was still able to grab it before setting sail for Australia.
1.When we look at the ancient fossils of fauna and flora in New Zealand and Australia, much of it is said to have come from India. It is considered that the sea level was lower at the time, and a great forested land bridge existed between Australia and New Guinea. It is considered that it was about 50,000 years ago when man perhaps descended from Java.
2.The physical structure of the Maoris was like that of the Madia Gonds. So it can be figured that the Maoris were the Madia Gonds from Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Chandrapur in India which comprised “Gondwana.” Recent anthropological studies have shown that the skulls of some of the Maoris are small and thin like the Gonds of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
3.This would indicate that there would have to be a common source, since facial features, color and general appearance is the same even after so many centuries. The language also still contains some common words found in Maori, the Malayan Peninsula, and even Egypt. Accepting that the Maori came to New Zealand through India, they stayed in Sumatra for an indefinite period, moving towards Borneo, and on to the islands which they named Ahu, Maui and Hawaiki. It is strange that these names still exist as Ahu, Maui and Hawaii of the Hawaiin group, being a seafaring group of people.
4.The Maori believed in a Supreme Being and Creator, like Vishnu or Brahma, and in departmental gods, such as Sky and Earth as the original parents, similar to the Prakriti and Purusha theology of the Vedic system. They also accepted a personified form of evil existing in the underworld.
5. The Maori division of time was based on the movements of the moon, utilizing a lunar calendar. This is also very much like the Vedic system.

The Dharma of the Maori is closely related to nature and to the ancestors. So rituals evolved around this view. The Maoris have certain customs that help dispatch the soul of the dead person to the spirit world. They also believe, like the Vedic philosophy, that all living beings have a soul, and that everything is part of God. In this way we can recognize some of the positive aspects in which the Maori continued to hold some of the Vedic values that they must have originally brought with them to this area.
7.Lately, the interest in the Maori philosophy, culture and traditions are being revived, and government assistance is being requested to help. The Waikato University of New Zealand now has a School of Maori and Pacific Development.

The reason why the so-called “Greek nose” is called a “Greek nose” is because it is the kind of nose that is shown in many works of ancient Greek art. The reason why the so-called “Roman” nose is called a “Roman nose” is because it is shown in many works of ancient Roman art. The names of the two different types of noses ultimately have very little to do with the actual frequency of these nose types in Greece and Italy.
This actually supports that Queen Dido was not Greek. :-)

Some news reports have described him as a cult leader and responsible (suspiciously, as why would one really do this) for a large number(900 approx) of many his own people dying (due to drinking a poisoned drink it seems)? ReplyDeleteReading your gems of vedanta gives great clarity. The diffusion of superposition principle in macro clearly draws the line of transition between subjective and objective.
Though objective is mithya, Brahman presents an illusion on itself a matrix of creation which nudges a human to look within Subjective Self to find the quantum origin beyond cause and effect paradigm.
This also points out a very ancient secret that delving into subjective Self gives mastery of subjective as well as the objective. We see modern western civilization breaking so much sweat on shallow objective. With this approach it will take them countless years to know Brahman.
