Sangeetha asked me about Draupadi and her five husbands.
Well I have written about it before, but I will write again in this SANATANA DHARMA SERIES.
This is because if I don’t
reveal it nobody else can. Since Mahabharata was written by Vyasa, nobody has
been able to explain the allegory of Draupadi and her 5 Pandava husbands.

FOR KUNDALINI SHAKTI..
Draupadi is the most important female character in the
Hindu epic Mahabharata.
The war happened due to
her sarcastic taunt when King Duryodhana fell into a pool , tricked by
illusions created by Maya Danava. She screamed and laughed ANDHASYA PUTRA ANDAHAH ( son of
blind parents is blind too )
Duryodhana felt that
his chaste mother Gandhari who did the ultimate sacrifice of a BHARATIYA NAARI and
blindfolded herself , did not deserve such an insult.
Duryodhana seetHing
with anger stepped out of the pool and declared tersely QUEEN DRAUPADI, THIS INSULT
TO MY PARENTS WILL COST YOU DEAR.
In Mahabharata, Draupadi
came out of a yagya.
She was NOT born
like you and me. She came directly out of the yagya fire at the ripe age to be married
right away.
King Drupada performed a yajña called Putrakameshti yajna
to obtain a means of blessing him. From the sacrificial fire, Draupadi emerged
as a beautiful dark-skinned young woman..
When she emerged from
the fire, a heavenly voice said that she would bring about the destruction of
the Kuru line and all were stunned.
Draupadi ( Indrasena in her previous birth ) was a daughter
of an ascetic Sage Moudgalya . She did a hard tapasya to please Lord Shiva as she could not get
a husband worthy of her .
After many years of penance, Lord Shiva was pleased with her and appeared to grant a boon.

Draupadi ( Indrasena ) asked for a husband with five qualities in her next life . The
first that he should be a moral man. Second, he should be valiant. Third he
should be good looking. Fourth, he should be knowledgeable and fifth that he
should be kind and loving.
Lord Shiva thought for
a while and then he said that all these five qualities could not exist in one
person.
Therefore he blessed
Draupadi with the boon that in her next birth, she would have five husbands who
would possess all the five qualities, individually.
Hence, when she was born as Draupadi to king Drupad, she was pre-destined to get married to the five brothers.

FINAL SCENE OF THE MAHABHARATA EPIC.
After the great
Kuruskhetra war , that nearly destroyed
humankind and humanity alike, the battle field lay still ! The battle was over
, and the vast field lay blood soaked and strewn with bodies of kings, princes
and soldiers .
There was no mood for
hip-hip huzzah among the surviving Pandava army. Most stood sullen and stunned
by the gruesome scene .They were devastated at the destruction that a single
war had caused.
Stunned and speechless,
they scanned the battle field to check out for survivors among the
lifeless. Gandhari with her blind fold
still in place was crying over her dead sons.
She was rambling in extreme grief , her speech slurred. “Duryodhana , my son , open your eyes. speak to me my first born…A hundred did we bear, all fine and proud. Was it for such a foolish end? Her husband, the blind king Dritharashtra stood by, looking lost.

The Pandavas and
Krishna hurried over to Gandhari and Dritharashtra, to offer their respects,
apologies and condolences. Sanjaya, the
king’s escort, gently bent down to Gandhari, to inform the blindfolded woman of
the arrival of the Pandavas and Krishna. Her grief turned to a burning rage .
.
She went up to Krishna
and screamed .The Pandavas recoiled in fear.
Gandhari cried out to Krishna “You, who I worshipped as Vishnu and You,
known as an avatar of the supreme godhead. Aren’t you ashamed of your doings?
Could you not have averted this war with your divine will and power? Is this
how you answer my prayers? Ask your mother, Devaki, the pain of losing a child.
She had seven of her children being killed at birth and now I have seen a
hundred sons of mine being butchered to death” .
Krishna laughed gently.
She now vented her
steam “ Oh mocking god , If my years of Vishnu bhakthi have been true, and if I
have been true to my husband with this blindfold, then, may you die in 36 years
from today. May Dwaraka be floodeld , may every one of your Yadava kin perish
by killing each other, just as you made the kins of Kuru kill one another. May
the Yadavas perish “
Suddenly the gravity of
her words dawned on her . She has indeed been true to her devotion to Vishnu
and to her blindfold . Her curse would take effect . Her anger vapourised and she fell at
Krishna’s feet for foregiveness .
Krishna smiled and
gently lifted her up. He whispered “ Oh mother , your curse will take effect,
not only because of your true devotion towards me and your husband, but also
due to the ever changing sands of time. In the mean time, let’s attend to the
tending of the dead and sending them away on their journey to the heavens.”
Lord Krishna walked past the stunned Pandavas.
After the war was over
Krishna was himself contemplating the end of the snooty Yadav race. They were
very powerful under the protection of lord Krishna so no external force could
defeat them. If the Yadavas were
unharnessed , they will become a burden to the planet.
Krishna realized the gravity of the situation and the importance of bringing the destruction of his own beloved race. Gandhari’s curse came at the right time as if on divine cue.

Days flew by after the
coronation of Yudhishtra as the king of Hasthinapur. Krishna went back to
Dwaraka to rule over the prosperous kingdom.
Slowly but steadily the the curse of Gandhari bore fruit.
The pompous Yadavas
shed their conduct, morals, scruples and humility. One incident sealed their fate. Some great
sages were on pilgrimage and they stopped by at Dwarka to meet Krishna and
Balarama.
The Yadavas, which
included Bhodakas, Vrishnis, Kekeyas and Andakas, were now at the peak of
wanton uncouth behavior.
A bunch of cocky Yadava
boys decided to tease the sages. They dressed Samba, the handsome son of
Krishna as a woman and tied pillows on
his stomach to make the woman look pregnant.
They approached the
sages and asked them to predict whether the 'lady' would give birth to a boy or
a girl. The dismayed sages saw through
this charade and were shocked at this lack of respect. In anger, one of the sages cursed them saying
that the disguised boy will give birth to a lump of iron which will destroy the
entire Yadava race.


The Yadavas, again
showed extreme disrespect and responded with sarcasm, instead of an apology.
There was a pall of
fear and impending doom the next day when Krishna’s son Sambha developed labour
pains and soon delivered an iron mace . They immediately rushed with the mace
to Akroora and Ugrasena and in the presence of Krishna himself; they narrated the
weird tide of events.
Krishna knew the events which would transpire
in future , and kept quiet.
Seeing Krishna silent ,
Akroora cried “Grind the mace to a fine powder and cast it into the ocean.” The
Yadavas nodded and ran off in haste to comply.
Akroora looked with
intent at Krishna, his eyes pregnant with questions. Krishna simply smiled back. “Uncle, the Kala
Chakra is now in motion . Sambha has
played his part perfectly.”
He left without another
word, leaving both of them bewildered.
“What did he mean by
that?” asked Ugrasena. “I can tell you that, father.”
Ugrasena turned around
to the source of voice – Rukmini, the wife of Krishna . “Thirty six year ago,
Krishna prayed to Shiva for a son like him—a god of destruction -does that mean
anything?”
The time for chaste Gandari’s
curse to take effect had arrived.
Outside the palace, the
Yadavas had obeyed Akroora’s command and they ground the iron mace into fine
powder—except for a stubborn triangular piece looking like an arrow head. It
was too hard to grind . The Yadavas threw everything into the sea.
The fear disappeared
and they went back to their wanton and rowdy behavior . They started to drink
heavily and were intoxicated throughout the day. Time rolled on. The triangular piece of the
mace was swallowed by a fish. The fish was caught by a hunter, who upon finding
the piece in the fish’s entrails immediately used it to craft a fine poisonous
arrow.
The fine powder, on the
other hand, washed back ashore and deposited itself by the beautiful coast of
Dwaraka. A certain sharp serrated grass grew in lush abundance in the area
where the powder was deposited.
Everything was set and
in place for the final showdown.
After 36 years of
Mahabharat war, evil omens started to appear in the Dwaraka city. The
Sudarshana chakra, Panchajanya shankh, the chariot of lord Krishna and the
plough weapon of Balarama just disappeared from earth. One day, the Yadavas gathered on the beach.
The liquor that they drank made them lose their senses completely.
They started teasing
one another, bringing up the gory pasts and gruesome mistakes of each
other. Satyaki and Krithavarma acted as
the starting points of the doom of Dwaraka.
Satyaki had fought on Pandava’s side in the battle of Kurukshetra and
Krithavarma, on the Kaurava side. They taunted one another, bringing back
memories of the horrific war where the Pandavas cheated against the rules of
war , aided and abetted by Krishna.
Suddenly in a fit of
rage, Satyaki, jumped on Krithaverma and cut his head off. The friends of
Krithavarma pounced on Satyaki and a great mass brawl followed.
Pradyumna, the son of
Krishna, innocent though he was, found himself in the thick of the fight and
was killed. As they have come to the sea
shore for a pleasure, they did not carry any weapons along with them.

They saw the long grown
sharp serrated grass in abundance along the sea shore. They picked up the grass
stems and beat and killed each other. The whole area was soaked in red blood.
Those grass stems are nothing but blades made of the powder of the same lump of
Iron born to Samba.
The curse of saints had
borne fruit.
Each blade of grass
became a mace, smashing into the Yadavas, killing them instantly. Except
Krishna, all Yadavas were killed. Krishna’s charioteer Daruka and another one
called Babhru only survived.
They both approached
Sri Krishna and said: “O Krishna! All Yadavas were killed. Whereabouts of
Balarama are not known. It is better to search for him.”
Balarama was in deep
meditation under a tree.
Seeing this, Krishna
told Daruka, ““O Daruka! you immediately go to Hastinapura and inform Dharmaja
about the mass massacre of Yadavas and bring Arjuna here. He will look after
everything.” said Krishna. Accordingly, Daruka rushed towards Hastinapura in a
chariot.
Krishna went to the
place where Balarama was sitting and said “O brother Balarama! I will sit in
meditation along with you.”
But there was no reply
from Balarama.
A long spiral smoke
type serpent came out of the face of Balarama. Balarama had just left this
mortal body. His soul travelled into the
sky .. Balarama attained moksha and joined Vishnu at Vaikuntam .
Krishna knew that the
time for him to shed his earthly avatar had come.
Krishna knew the only
way for someone to kill him was by wounding his foot. He remembered the curse of Maharishi Durvasa,
which left his foot vulnerable. Krishna
laid down under a tree and went into Yoga Samadhi.
At that time a hunter Jara entered that forest. That hunter misunderstood the moving foot of Krishna as a lurking deer and shot a lethal arrow that pierced into Krishna’s feet.

As soon as the hunter reached Krishna, he realised his mistake and pleaded the lord for forgiveness. Lord Krishna consoles him and tells him how his death was inevitable and things are going as per divine plan .
Krishna says that in
his previous birth as Lord Rama in the Tretayuga, Rama killed Vaali (Sugreeva's
brother) from behind. So, Krishna has now reaped the price for the same through
Jara who was king Vali in his previous birth.
Such was the Dharma
that, even for the Ruler of the Universe, the laws of Karma remain the same.
Hence, lord Krishna left the mortal world.
The time from which
lord Krishna died is considered to be the beginning of Kaliyuga.
Daruka, sent by Sri
Krishna, met Pandavas and informed them about the tragic deaths.
On hearing this,
Pandavas plunged into great grief. After taking suitable instructions from
Dharmaja, Arjuna reached Dwarka. Dwarka
was destined to be flooded within seven
days of Krishna’s death; hence, Arjuna decided to take the survivors and the
Vishnu idol to Indraprastha.
Krishna's father left
for heavenly abode while being in deep meditation. Arjuna performed the last rites for Krishna
and his kinsman. All the ladies and
children started moving towards Indraprastha along with Arjuna.
As the people walked
away from the Dwaraka city, and they looked back for the last time, the city
sank into the sea. Arjuna held the idol
of Vishnu which is now at Guruvayur temple in Kerala.
On the way, some
thieves of saw that only one man with a bow accompanied the ladies. They tried
to rob them. Arjuna who was once a very great archer, found it very difficult
to even lift his bow. When he tried to invoke his Divya astras, he forgot all
those mental passwords to arm his arrows.. The thieves killed many people and
kidnapped some beautiful women.
Some of the ladies
including the wives of Krishna and Balarama self immolated.
This was NOT Sati.

Arjuna unable to even
protect the women arrived at Hastinapur in a most dejected condition, not
wishing to live anymore. The Pandavas visited sage VedaVyasa and narrated the
Yadavas destruction, Krishna's death and Arjuna’s inability to save the Yadava
women.
The sage consoled the
Pandavas and told them that their purpose on the earth is served.
The Pandavas coroneted
Parikshit and embarked on their final journey towards the Himalayas with Draupadi
. A dog followed them .
Krishna participated in
the Kurukshethra battle only after Arjuna and Duryodana themselves voluntarily
came to seek his help in Dwaraka. Matters so transpired that he gave his mighty
Narayani sena to Duryodana and became a charioteer to Arjuna.

Panini’s Astadhyayi,
presented the processes of phonology, morphology and syntax, and laid down the
basis for centuries of commentaries and expositions by Sanskrit grammarians who
followed.
Panini's approach was
amazingly formal; his production rules for deriving complex structures and
sentences represent resemble those of modern computer languages. Many of the developments in Indian
Mathematics, especially the place value notation system have originated from
Paninian analysis.
Panini's grammar
consists of four parts:-
Śivasūtra: phonology
(notations for phonemes specified in 14 lines)
Aṣṭadhyāyī: morphology
(construction rules for complexes)
Dhātupāṭha: list of
roots (classes of verbal roots)
Gaṇapāṭha: lists
classes of primitive nominal stems
In the Shiva Sutras,
Panini discusses something like the concepts of the phoneme, the morpheme and
the root. The Shiva Sutras describe a
phonemic notational system in the opening part of the Astadhyayi. The notational system introduces different
clusters of phonemes that serve special roles in the morphology of Sanskrit,
and are referred to throughout the text.
The Vedas when chanted
the right way releases the wisdom they contain as real sacred energy that can
“create the spiritual states of mind and of life which the words describe” ,
and influence the course of human destiny and even the order of the Universe.
These 14 verses are
known as "Maheshwara Sutras" or "Maheshwara Sutrani" (in
Sanskrit). These verses are just a collection of sounds and if you say them
aloud, in one breath, they really sound like damaru drum beats.
And because they
emerged from a Divine source, with divine math embedded , they were so
perfect...so complete that Panini was able to create, compile codify the rules
of Sanskrit grammar in such a way and till today they have remained unchanged.
Panini’s grammar covers
many features of the language like swara (vowels), vyanjana (consonants) ,
sandhis (combination of words) , samaas (description diff to put it in a
bracket) , Prathyaya, (prefixes/suffixes), etc.
Sound has a mystic
side. The audible sound (vaikari) is heard by all, but the mystical vibrations
of mantras , even though appearing to the ear as ordinary sounding syllabifications,
are not really ’heard.’ The latter sound , technically known as para-vak, is considered the domain of the advanced 12
strand DNA maharishis.
Quantum Physics tells
us today that every state of matter has its own associated vibration.

Shankaracharya commented on the Brahma Sutras.
“The sound created by the explosion of the primordial atom gave rise to
the causal, subtle and gross forms of the universe.”
Shabda-Brahman is a
vibratory reality, which exists underlying the reality which we can perceive.
According to Vedic theory, this pure vibrational current, flows eternally – a
kind of river of sublime truths – that can be accessed by anyone who has the
ability to penetrate within it.
In case of each Tantric
mantra, the practitioner needs to know its rishi (seer), devata (deific power),
channdas (rhythm), svara (accentuation), prayogya (application), beej (seed
power), shakti (a fraction of itself that expresses its power), kavacha
(armour), kilaka (recitation of which prevents the mantra’s power from moving
away from the practitioner) and nyasa (the process by which various sounds in
the mantra are identified with the energy in particular limbs).
No cosmic sound can be
heard by man’s naked ears. Scientists
have found that the sound emanating from planets is pitched twenty octaves
below man’s hearing, while the song of the atom is sung a complementary twenty
octaves above it, leaving us “musically midway” between the trebles and basses
of the micro and macro-cosmic worlds.
The function of a mantra is to create vibrations in the inner
consciousness, that will prepare for realization.

towards all objects, he who has controlled his passions should continuously

Letters in Sanskrit are
called akshara, the eternal; they are sound symbols of the eternal reality. The
function of a mantra in Sanskrit is to create vibrations in the inner
consciousness. The Vedanta-sutras add that ultimate liberation comes from sound
(anavrittih shabdat).
There are 11 ways of
reciting the Vedas- Samhita, Pada,
Krama, Jata, Maalaa, Sikha, Rekha, Dhwaja, Danda, Rathaa and Ghana.

Mantra-yoga is one of
the most important paths within traditional yoga, and concerns the different
expressions of sound, from the most subtle to the coarsest. It is with good
reason that the Vayaviya Samhita of the Shiva-purana, in describing the five
classes of yoga, places mantra yoga first.
"Through sound we
cease to return to a body, or we liberate ourselves." --
Vedanta-sutra (4.4.23)
Conscious repetition of
mantras liberates the energy that lies within them.
Two oscillators
pulsating in the same field in almost identical rhythm will tend to "lock
in," with the result that eventually their vibrations will become
precisely synchronous. This phenomenon is referred to as "mutual
phase-locking" or "entrainment."
Entrainment is
universal in nature. In fact, it is so ubiquitous that we hardly notice it,
"as with the air we breathe," The tendency of the universe to share
rhythms, that is, to vibrate in harmony.

Mantra is part of a
universal language rooted in sound, image, number and symbol, reflecting a
"cosmic thinking" beyond the preconceptions and biases of human
thought.
Mantra functions
according to the inner mathematics of cosmic law. It serves to link our individual intelligence
with the greater intelligence that pervades all space, extending our awareness
into the Infinite and Eternal. To chant
a mantra at a deeper yogic level is to think with the entire universe and to
access the wisdom and experience of all beings.
Mantra in the yogic
sense relates to the prime energies, ideas, principles or archetypes of the
cosmic intelligence that directs the forces of nature and the movements of our
own minds and hearts.
There are mantric
sounds that can awaken the higher potentials of the brain and change the flow
of energy in the nervous system. Each
one of us has a unique sound pattern that sustains all that we do and allows
our energies to move and grow or stagnate and decline.
Unless we learn to
harmonize our inner sound vibrations, our lives will likely remain in
disharmony and suffering. Mantra is the
most important tool for attuning our bodies and minds to their proper
resonance, which is not with the outer world, but with the divine presence that
constitutes our own deepest Self.
Mantra maintains the
strength and integrity of our mental field, so that the mind no longer wanders
off or loses its composure. Mantra sustains
the proper circulation of energies in the sphere of the mind, so that we are no
longer vulnerable to external conditioning which, after all, is based largely
on reactive patterns of words and names.
Just as Yoga asanas
place the body in a calm and relaxed state, so mantras puts the mind into a
steady and relaxed state for meditation.
Mantra practice
gradually calms and integrates the mind.
The mind becomes silent, concentrated and reflective, allowing our
awareness to vibrate with the mantra.
This naturally leads to deeper meditation, in which the mantra may fall
away.
MANTRAS WORK ONLY IN
SANSKRIT, AS DIVINE MATH IS EMBEDDED
Formless meditation is
hard to achieve directly but becomes easily accessible once one builds the
power of mantra in the mind. When we repeat a mantra, or do various forms of
chanting, a more refined vibration develops and begins to assume the background
pattern of our mind, down to a subconscious level.
If we continually
return to the mantra each time our mind becomes agitated, then the mantra's
power to calm the mind will increase.
With the mantra, we have a tool for redirecting the energy of the mind
within so that we can reclaim our inner composure.
The effect of the
mantra is not produced at the level of reason. The knowledge acquired by the
repetition of the mantra extends far beyond the level of reason. In India we
say that it is in the depths of consciousness. A big chunk of the Vedas are
mantras.
Sanskrit is called the
language of nature because it maintains a correlation between sound and form
called namarupa. This means that the
sound of the word matches the thing it is describing. The alphabets could be seen
by the seers in their minds when it was uttered.
Sanskrit’s resonant
frequencies match the energy centres (chakras) in the subtle body and the
sounds stimulate, activate, energize and open them. This increases the flow of life force (prana)
in your mind and body resulting in improved health, strength and heightened
awareness. This shows that Sanskrit is a
divine language .
The cochlea in the
inner ear and it has a spiral shape and has three and half coils . Kundalini like cochlea is coiled and rests at
the base of the backbone. Kundalini has
three and half coils too. If cochlea contains nerves that connects sound
vibrations with the nervous system that generates consciousness--
Kundalini is the subtlest of vibrations that generate
consciousness in human self.
Brain scans of have
been taken of participants were compared while in a resting state and during
the chanting of VEDIC MANTRAs. The study revealed that there was a marked
increase in brain activity in areas of the brain that control memory. One particularly significant finding was that
the increase in brain activity occurs in the first part of the brain to
experience a functional decrease in Alzheimer’s patients.
The state of health,
according to Yoga Psychology, is the balanced flow of energy (Prana) through
all the energy circuits of the mind and body.
When this flow gets interrupted, by interfering with or breaking some
laws of Nature, the body begins to revolt.
This revolt is seen and
experienced in the form of different symptoms, discomfort and dis-ease. Ancient Indians knew how to reestablish the
lost harmony and rhythm of the body and mind by utilizing Shabda BrahmAn.
Mantra healing is an
automatic process of deep inner healing set in motion through the right
combinations of sounds that resonate within and fill the space around us.
The ancient Indian
scalar interferometry missiles and vimanas has mantra passwords. The white man ridiculed. Today, I use words
to telephone anybody using my Samsung mobile.
Scalar waves are very
different from electromagnetic waves. They can travel over immense distances
with no loss of energy at super-luminal speed ( faster than light! ). Mantras

Scalar wave generated

Vibration is sound.
Everything that is in existence, has a sound, a frequency, a musical, rhythmic
quality. The relationship between the planets is called "The music of the
spheres." We can consider nature,
and any system within nature, to be one great symphony so vast we cannot even

Resonance is not
limited to the sounds we hear or those we create with our voices. Resonance
involves our whole body, our minds and our emotions. Entrainment is the use of
a stronger pulse to create a change in another. The main physical systems
entrainment affects are heartbeat, breathing, and brainwaves. Entrainment is

In every atom of our
organic being we find a vibration, a blueprint of radiance, a vibrancy of
telepathy that connects us at all levels to the greater universe, aswithin so
without. Every cell in our body is a sound resonator. Every cell lives in a
rhythmic pattern. Each organ has its own cycle and its own pulse.
Each and every system
has a cycle, rhythm, pattern and pulse that exist in resonant harmony and
sympathy to the cycles of the Earth and the heavens, helping us to remember and
to reconnect to the greater cosmic blueprint.
Our bodies reflect our
inner state of being by the sounds we utter. If we are in pain, we groan. If we
are joyful, we hum or sing. If we are sad, we cry. In meditation, we are still.
Just as sound as born out of silence, sound creates the road back to silence,
inner harmony and health.
The human body is 70%
water and sound travels four times faster in water than in air. Thus, we are a
perfect resonator for sound; within us and around us the sounds of the universe
impact us both positively and negatively.
When we lose our
connection to the rhythms and cycles of nature and the interconnection to all
things in the universe, this alienation or disharmony manifests as imbalance
and disease of the body and subtle bodies.
The sounds of the
Sanskrit alphabet itself are balancing to the body. In fact, each letter of the alphabet has a
specific sound and equivalent vibration, which corresponds to a particular part
of the body. This is known as the Mantra
Purusha.
Mantra purusha sounds
also correspond to 108 kalari marma points , and thus may be chanted while
stimulating marma points, increasing the healing effect. Mantras may be chanted while performing
asanas, directing energy to specific areas of the body.
Sound healing is the
practice of applying vibrational frequencies within the audible range to the
human energy field, to bring the energetic bodies, chakras, organ systems,
cells, and all parts into harmony, supporting optimal health and vitality.
In the old Newtonian
physics version of life, cells are made out of pieces of matter (molecules) and
could only be influenced by other pieces of matter ( molecules such as hormones
or drugs). The newer insights on molecules offered by quantum physics reveals
that molecules are units of vibrating energy that can be influenced by both
matter and invisible energy waves (harmonic resonance). Constructive interference ( good vibes) and
destructive interference ( bad vibes) can control the movements of protein
molecules.
Sound and music are
intrinsic to human life. We can never be
whole without them. Our entire body resonates to our own voice, as were
mainly electrolyte plasma water in a leather bag. Our body and energy systems resonate to every
sound around us. Music is the expression
of the human spirit.
A sound wave with a
frequency of 20 hertz would have a period of 0.05 second (i.e., 20 wavelengths
/ second × 0.05 second / wavelength = 1),
while a sound wave of 20 kilohertz would have a period of 0.00005 second ( 20,000 wavelengths / second × 0.00005
second / wavelength = 1).
Between 20 hertz and 20
kilohertz lies the frequency range of hearing for humans. The physical property of frequency is
perceived physiologically as pitch, so that the higher the frequency, the
higher the perceived pitch. The amplitude of a sound wave determines its
intensity, which in turn is perceived by the ear as loudness.
Quantum Physics which
suddenly appeared in the 20th century is the result of ancient Vedic Sanskrit
texts being translated and patented by the white Christian invaders .

verses ( Shiva Sutras ) consists of a group of basic Sanskrit phonemes (i.e. either open
syllables consisting either of initial vowels or consonants followed by the
basic vowel "a") followed by a single 'dummy letter', or anubandha,
conventionally rendered by capital letters in Roman transliteration and named
'IT'
This allows Pāṇini to
refer to groups of phonemes with pratyāhāras, which consist of a phoneme-letter
and an anubandha (and often the vowel a to aid pronunciation) and signify all
of the intervening phonemes.
Pratyāhāras are thus
single syllables, but they can be declined .
Hence the pratyāhāra aL refers to all phonemes (because it consists of
the first phoneme of the first verse (a) and the last anubandha of the last
verse (L); aC refers to vowels (i.e., all of the phonemes before the anubandha
C: i.e. a i u ṛ ḷ e o ai au); haL to consonants, and so on.
Throughout the
Ashtadhyayi, Panini adds extra letters to a term to show its properties. These
letters only have a meaning in technical literature, and they never appear in
"natural" Sanskrit. For that reason, such a letter is called
anubandha, literally "bound after." t.
The combination of letter and
anubandha, called a pratyāhāra, indicates everything from the letter to the
anubandha. Anubandha letters are all
quite rare in real Sanskrit. This was a deliberate choice by Panini. By using
rarer letters, he could reduce the chance that a pratyāhāra could be mistaken
for a real word.

Since Panini wrote the
adaptable Sanskrit grammar 7500 years ago, there has been NO changes, it is
that perfect-- the work of a genius!!
SANSKRIT-- which is the
oldest language in the world , with the most immense vocabulary, clear speech,
perfect pronunciation, accurate expression and politeness— the only language
which has no synonyms.
There is no
communication every year , like for English " the following new words have
been added to the Oxford English dictonary in the year 2009". Sanskrit has
no meanings by connotations and hence cannot age. It has perfect morphology
that leaves no room for error.
Sanskrit has a
construct like geometry in cymatics and can be digitalised.
IT IS POSSIBLE TO MAKE
CONSCIOUS COMPUTERS IF THIS LANGUAGE IS ADAPTED TO COMPUTERS.
It can be adapted to Backus-Naur Form grammar
that is used to describe modern programming languages today. NASA had declared
that sanskrit is the only unambiguous spoken language on the planet. Its
alphabets are impeccably arranged.
There are no proper
nouns in Sanskrit. Every single Sanskrit word has a meaning built into the word
itself.
By adopting digital
Sanskrit as a computer language, with water as memory and organic DNA strads it is possible to create conscious computers
which can laugh at a genuine joke, or tell the moral of a story like “ haste is
waste”.
It is the only
unambiguous computer language suitable for N-GRAM NLP and AskMSR. My son had written a critique while at Cornell for his ME, for which he
secured full marks.
The principles of sound
harmonics working precisely and consistently through the entire language, from
the basic four sounds through thousands of words and their variations. The way
words unfold from their seed forms is amazing. The mathematical precision
throughout the language and give it its extraordinary power .
There is a direct link
between the sound and signs,it is phonetic. The writing of Sanskrit language is
based on the sound of the spoken form. Sanskrit has no spelling, nor there are
any silent letters . There is logic in its sound system, and a natural
continuity in its word-making as well as sentence-making. Sanskrit sentence
structure is flexible--to hell with syntax. The order of words in a sentence
does not matter. The Vedic srutis could be uttered backwards with no change in
meaning
Sanskrit has three
genders (masculine, feminine, and neuter), three numbers (singular, dual, and
plural), and eight cases (nominative, accusative, instrumental, dative,
ablative, genitive, locative, and vocative), although only in the singular of
the most common declension does a noun show different forms for each case.
Adjectives are inflected to agree with nouns. Verbs are inflected for tense,
mode, voice, number, and person.
There is a vibration or
resonance in the sounds of Sanskrit and hence is the choice language for
mantras.( CYMATICS )
Sanskrit grammar has
extensive grammatical tenses. There are ten tenses: one form for the
present tense, three forms for the past tense and two forms for the future
tense.
There is also
imperative mood, potential mood, benedictive mood (called asheerling, which is
used for indicating a blessing), and conditional. Each tense has three separate words for each
of the three grammatical persons (first person, second person and third
person), and it further distinguishes if it’s referring to one, two, or more
than two people (called eakvachan, dvivachan and bahuvachan).
There are three
categories of the verbs called atmanepadi, parasmaipadi and ubhaipadi. These
forms indicate whether the outcome of the action is related to the doer or the
other person or both. In this way there are ninety forms of one single verb.
Sanskrit words are
formed of a root word called dhatu. For
instance: kri root word means ‘to do,’ gam root word means ‘to go.’ So, there
are ninety forms of each of these verbs like, karoti, kurutah, kurvanti, and
gachchati, gachchatah, gachchanti etc.
There are ready-made single words for all kinds of uses and situations.
There are words for all
the three genders and each word has twenty-one forms of its own which covers
every situation. Then there is a very elaborate and precise system of
composing, phrasing, making a sentence, joining two words and coining any
number of words according to the need.
Sanskrit grammar has
the capacity for creating any number of new words for a new situation or
concept or thing.
The morphology of word
formation is unique and of its own kind where a word is formed from a tiny seed
root (called dhatu) in a precise grammatical order which has been the same
since the very beginning.
Any number of desired
words could be created through its root words and the prefix and suffix system
as detailed in the Ashtadhyayi of Panini.
Furthermore, 90 forms of each verb and 21 forms of each noun or pronoun
could be formed that could be used in any situation.
Its vowels are the
actual ‘voice pattern’ of the sound and consonants are only the ‘form’ of the
‘voice pattern’ of the sound. So a consonant
alone cannot be pronounced as it is only a ‘form’ of the ‘voice pattern’
until it is attached to a vowel. hus, a vowel, which itself is a ‘voice
pattern,’ can be pronounced alone (like,) or it can be modulated by adding a
consonant to it (like,).
The Malayalam is the
most Sanskritised of all language on this planet. Malayalam alphabet consists
of 54 letters, 18 of which are vowels. It is a syllabic alphabet in which all
consonants have an inherent vowel.
Panini formulated the
rules of Sanskrit morphology, syntax and semantics in fourteen verses, from
the sounds of Lord Shiva's Damaru,
called Maheshwara Sutrani. These Sutras
are also known as Aṣṭadhyayi, meaning eight chapters, the foundational text of
the grammatical branch of the Vedanga.
Astadhyayi, presented
the processes of phonology, morphology and syntax, and laid down the basis for
centuries of commentaries and expositions by Sanskrit grammarians who followed.
Panini's approach was
amazingly formal; his production rules for deriving complex structures and
sentences represent resemble those of modern computer languages. Many of the developments in Indian
Mathematics, especially the place value notation system may have originated
from Paninian analysis.
Panini's grammar
consists of four parts:-
Śivasūtra: phonology
(notations for phonemes specified in 14 lines)
Aṣṭadhyāyī: morphology
(construction rules for complexes)
Dhātupāṭha: list of
roots (classes of verbal roots)
Gaṇapāṭha: lists
classes of primitive nominal stems
In the Shiva Sutras,
Panini discusses something like the concepts of the phoneme, the morpheme and
the root. The Shiva Sutras describe a
phonemic notational system in the opening part of the Astadhyayi. The notational system introduces different
clusters of phonemes that serve special roles in the morphology of Sanskrit,
and are referred to throughout the text.
Panini captured the
sounds of the damaru and translated them into syllables. From these sounds emerged the 14 syllables
which provided Panini with the basis for formulating the rules of Sanskrit
grammar.
These 14 verses are
known as "Maheshwara Sutras" or "Maheshwara Sutrani" (in
Sanskrit). These verses are just a collection of sounds and if you say them
aloud, in one breath, they really sound like drum beats.
And because they
emerged from a Divine source, they were so perfect...so complete that Panini
was able to create, compile codify the rules of Sanskrit grammar in such a way
and till today they have remained unchanged.

The Ashtadhyayi of
Panini consists of 3990 sutras or
aphorisms. The effect of the mantra is not produced at the level of reason. The
knowledge acquired by the repetition of the mantra extends far beyond the level
of reason. In India we say that it is in the depths of consciousness. A big
chunk of the Vedas are mantras.
Sanskrit is called the
language of nature because it maintains a correlation between sound and form
called namarupa. This means that the
sound of the word matches the thing it is describing. The alphabets could be
seen by the seers in their minds when it was uttered.
Sanskrit’s resonant
frequencies match the energy centres (chakras) in the subtle body and the
sounds stimulate, activate, energize and open them. This increases the flow of life force (prana)
in your mind and body resulting in improved health, strength and heightened
awareness. This shows that Sanskrit is a
divine language .
On a more subtle level,
the Sanskrit phonemes relate to the energy currents which lie deep within the
interior of the human body. Each of the 72,000 currents has a distinct sound,
although they are too diffuse and vague to be enunciated distinctly.
In mantra shastra, the point where two energy
currents intersect is called a sandhi, the point where three energy currents
cross is called marma shthana, and the point where more than three energy
currents converge is called a chakra.
At the center of each
chakra a distinct sound predominates, and other distinct sounds are centered
around it. That is why, in kundalini yoga, each chakra is represented as having
a particular letter at its center, as well as a letter on each petal

Panini represents the
foundations of all knowledge of world today of the
emergence of meaningless
sound into meaningful word and the higher
structures of language
: the entirety indeed, of modern linguistics.
Panini was the first
grammarian known to human history to take stock of all
the pre-existing
knowledge set out in the Vedas and the allied Vedic
corpus, and a host of
his grammarian predecessors, and compile them
into a full fledged,
scientific discipline.
Taking stock of the
language content of the Vedic
corpus, while it was still on oral route 7500 years ago, Panini presented the
subject of Vyakarana or grammar as a treatise covering both the theory and
structure of language in its full spectrum ranging from sound, speech and
meaning to language.
Panini's extensive
analysis of the processes of phonology, morphology and
syntax, in the Aṣṭadhyāyī
adhyāyī, laid down the basis for commentaries and
expositions by Sanskrit
grammarians who followed in later centuries.
The Ashtadhyayi is the central part of Pāṇini's grammar, and
by far the most complex. It is the earliest complete grammar of Classical
Sanskrit, and in fact is of a brevity and completeness unmatched in any ancient
grammar of any language.
Every other language
lifted from Panini’s grammar.
The Ashtadhyayi
consists of 3,959 sutras (sūtrāṇi) or rules, distributed among eight chapters,
which are each subdivided into four sections or padas (pādāḥ). From example
words in the text, and from a few rules depending on the context of the discourse,
additional information as to the geographical, cultural and historical context
of Pāṇini can be discerned.
It takes material from
the lexical lists (Dhatupatha, Ganapatha) as input and describes algorithms to
be applied to them for the generation of well-formed words. It is highly
systematised and technical. Inherent in its approach are the concepts of the
phoneme, the morpheme and the root.
Panini’s rules have a reputation for
mathematical perfection — they describe
Sanskrit morphology fully, without any redundancy. A consequence of his
grammar's focus on brevity is its highly unintuitive structure, reminiscent of
modern notations such as the "Backus–Naur Form". His sophisticated
logical rules and technique have been widely influential in ancient and modern
linguistics.
Modern linguistics
acknowledges the following eight PDF files as the most complete generative grammar of any
language yet written, and continues to adopt technical ideas from it.

The descriptive grammar
of Sanskrit, which Panini brought to its perfection, is THE greatest monuments
of human intelligence and an indispensable model for the description of
languages.
Pāṇini's 7500 year old
grammar and the 7000 year old Vedas are the only texts that were passed from
one generation to another without being amended. In the Ashtadhyayi language is observed in a
manner that has no parallel . It defines
the linguistic expression of thought.
Pāṇini made use of a
technical metalanguage consisting of a syntax, morphology and lexicon. This
metalanguage is organised according to a series of meta-rules, some of which
are explicitly stated while others can be deduced. The two fundamental
principles on which the metalanguage is based are non-redundancy, or the
principle of economy, and the necessity of all the rules in the Ashtadhyayi.
The Ashtadhyayi is
fundamental to the structure of their thinking. It is not a didactic grammar,
as it presupposes a knowledge of Sanskrit. Gradually, mainly after the X
century CE, manuals were produced that reorganised the Ashtadhyayi for didactic
purposes. These generally had simpler structures and were less ambitious than
their Ashtadhyayi source.
Pāṇini's approach was

held in in the greatest awe and admiration by EVERY linguist of all times !

Panini presents the
Sanskrit language in terms of a total of ….. Sutras, or rules regulating every
aspect of the language’s structure and usage, regarded by the greatest geniuses
of the world today , as a masterpiece of brevity yet astonishing in the
elegance and comprehensiveness of structure
At its base, the language rests on 42
letters or varnas, comprised of nine 9 vowels (5 simple and 4 diphthongs) and
33 consonants (25 stops or sparsas, arranged in 5 groups (ka-cha-ta-tha-pa) + 3
semi-vowels (ya-rala-va) + 4 sibilants (ss-sh-sa-ha). There are, in addition, 2
nasal sounds (anusvara and anusasika) and a hard h (visarga). The minimum unit
of utterance is the phoneme or syllable (akshara).
The vowels may be articulated
short (hrasva) long (dhirga) or prolated (pluta) and may be nasalized
(anunasika) or not (ananunasika) and may vary in pitch in three ways
(udatta–acute, anudatta-grave or mixed (svarita-circumflex) The consonants
likewise present features depending on where and how they are articulated in
the mouth.
These are the changes
in shape and sound that arise from derivation or inflection, the changes that ccur
from the declension of nouns (such as number, gender, case etc) and conjugation
of verbs (such as tense, mood etc), and when they combine to form the next
level of units of sound and phoneme sequences which constitute the Sabda or
Word, which then aggregate into the Pada and finally the Vakya or the Sentence.
Words are divided into four classes : nama, (nouns and adjectives) akhyata,
(verbs) upasarga, (prefixes, like pra- or pari- used with verbs, verbal
derivatives and nouns showing verbal activity) and nipata (indeclinables like
na, iva, ca, etc which have no gender and number and used as adverbs, conjunctions etc and
dispense with case endings).
Nouns and verbs are enumerated in the Ganapatha
and Dhatupatha parts of the Ashtadhyayai while the Upasarga and Nipata are
listed in the main Sutrapatha itself. Formation of the Pada from the Sabda,
called padasiddhi,forms the central part of morphological / grammatical
construction through a conjunction of two parts of that transform the Sabda
into the pada, the prakriti (base) and the pratyaya (affix).
The rules that
regulate the changes at these conjunctions, the rules of Sandhi, form the heart
of Panini’s grammar.

The Vedanga (
"limbs of the Veda") are six auxiliary disciplines in Vedic culture
that developed in ancient times, and has been connected with the study of the
Vedas.
The six Vedangas are :-
Shiksha (Phonetics),
Kalpa (Ritual Canon), Vyakaran (Grammar), Nirukta (explanation), Chhanda (Vedic
meter) and Jyotisha (Astrology).
Vedangas developed as ancillary
studies for the Vedas, but its insights into meters, structure of sound and
language, grammar, linguistic analysis and other subjects influenced post-Vedic
studies, arts, culture and various schools of Hindu philosophy
The Vedangas are the
six auxiliary disciplines for the understanding
and tradition of the Vedas.
Traditionally, Vyakarana and Nirukta are
shared across all four Vedas, while each Veda has its own Siksha, Chandas,
Kalpa and Jyotisha.
Later, they developed into independent disciplines, each
with its own corpus of Sutras.
These ancient disciplines became the foundations
of virtually all the disciplines that obtain today, of Phonology, Phonetics,
Etymology, Philology, Semantics, Syntax, Grammar, Aesthetics, or the History,
Psychology and Philosophy of language, or any aspect indeed of Linguistics..
Shiksha and Chandas are
aids for pronouncing and reciting Vedic mantras correctly, Vyakarana and
Nirukta are for understanding their meaning, and Jyotisha and Kalpa provide
appropriate times and methods for performing the Vedic rites and rituals.
The
Vedangas played an important role in maintaining the purity and integrity of
the Vedic tradition.
For centuries they taught and continue to teach Vedic
students how to recite the Vedic hymns, understand their purity of intonation ,
meaning and perform the various rituals and ceremonies strictly according the
established procedures.
The Vedangas greatly help us in proper understanding
and application of the Vedas.
Vedangas literally mean
the limbs of the Vedas. Just like the limbs of the body, they perform various
supportive and augmenting functions in the study, preservation and protection
of the Vedas and the Vedic traditions.
The Vedangas are the
last treatises of the Vedic literature. Paniniya Shiksha (41-42) narrates two
verses on the importance of the Vedangas which describe Veda as a Purusha
having six limbs as six Vedangas : --
Chhandas are his two feet, Kalpa are his two
arms, Jyotisha are his eyes, Nirukta is his ears, Shiksha is his nose and
Vyakarana is his mouth.
They
symbolically represent the organs of the Veda Purusha. Thus the Vedas are
imagined to possess six limbs in the form of the six Vedangas as mentioned in
the following Sanskrit verse :
"शिक्षा
कल्पो
व्याकरणं
निरुक्तं
छन्दसां
चयः
।
ज्योतिषामयनञ्चैव
वेदाङ्गानि
षडेव
तु"॥
“ Siksha Kalpo
Vyakaranam Niruktam Chandasam Chayah
Jyotishamayanam Chaiva
Vedangani Shadevatu.”
To understand Vedas, 6
disciplines have to be studied development of the students with a better
understanding of the Vedas and Vedic practices.
The content of the
Jyotisha and the Kalpa Vedangas carry a great range and depth of knowledge of
Astronomy and Mathematics and have been the ultimate source of the knowledge of
these subjects that for long had been falsely attributed by kosher white
historians to other ancient cultures like those of Egypt, Greece, Sumeria and
Mesopotamia.
Taking the words of the
Vedas as the first sacrosanct starting point, each of the link sequences in
this long chain from thought to speech, were then analysed in depth and
expressed in terms of principles and rules which went on to form the
disciplines of the Vedangas.
The ancient scholars who later built on the word
foundations of the Vedas, saw too, that its words to had to submit to the compulsions
imposed by of the physical speech mechanisms on modulations, stresses and
articulation and also and the time limits of the exhalation phase of
respiration, when alone these could occur.
This led them clearly to the rules
of recitation, especially the euphonies of smooth transitions between words
that determined the rules of Sandhi referred to in the Shiksha and the Nirukta
and the metric measures of the Chandas.
Vedangas follow the
full progression of language, self-expression, going through phonetics to words
to sentences.
The six Vedangas
(organs of the Vedas) are glorified as an essential subset of the 14
vidyasthanas – the abode of true knowledge and wisdom. They help to understand
Veda mantras completely and in depth.
In case there is a difference between the
two, Vedas will always prevail over the Vedangas.
Vedangas help us read, write, chant and understand Veda
mantras or Vedic hymns (slokas). Proper understanding of the vedic texts is
possible only when all these organs are strictly followed.
A student wanting to
understand and realize the inner meaning of the Vedas is required to first
master these six Vedangas before attempting to study the actual Vedas.

Ceremonial religion is
a matter of correct pronunciation, correct grammar and correct accents the
subjects which form the core of the Vedangas and hence they are considered
sacred.
Vedic srutis went of oral route for 330 centuries without losing a
syllable or a tone. The magic of the divine math embedded sruti lies in the
purity of sound.
The ancient Rishis
presented the Vedas in words representing a total vision of all existence. The
scholars who followed later, and who realized their true meaning and value,
felt it necessary to establish mechanisms for their preservation, transmission
and understandingthrough time, for the benefit of posterity. It was their
effort that resulted in the six Vedangas.
Four of the Vedangas
were addressed to the structure and function of the word content of the Vedas :
Shiksha or Phonetics for their correct
articulation; Nirukta or Etymology, on how the words originated;
Vyakarana or Grammar, on how words should be used in sentences to convey
meaning; and Chandas how sentences should be rendered as music or poetry
through metrical structures
The other two Vedangas went beyond the realm of
the word, to address the realm of activities and objects : Kalpa or Ritual, on
how and with what objects and actions, rituals should be conducted;
and Jyotisha or Astronomy on how time and place for the conduct of the
sacrifices should be determined.
The first four Vedangas present a remarkable
treatment of the entire spectrum of the discipline Linguistics, that are
recognized today as directly relevant to the formulations of modern
linguistics.
The last two have a remarkable conceptual anticipation of many
aspects of Astronomy and Mathematics of the present day.
Even a cursory
reflection on the idea of existence will tell anyone at once that it is
whatever is set in a framework of Space and Time. Existence also has two. basic
dimensions : the external physical, and the internal mental. The deeper
reflections of the ancient Seers reflected probed far beyond and deep into
these two dimensions, both within the internal world of the individual and the
external reaches of the cosmos.
Looking at the heavens they saw massive units
of distance and time at work, which seemed to be vastly scaled down to reach
down into the internal consciousness of the individual.
The energies and configurations of the planets and stars seemed to have their counterparts in the energies and the cells that supported life in the individual and share in what could best be described by a continuum of a single vast consciousness that was presented as existence.

Time too, seemed to share the same quality of
presenting vast units of aeons scaled down to the time rhythms of the years,
seasons and days and nights, which invested the planets and stars with the same
regularity as the heart-beat and breath of the individual, giving them the same
sense of belonging to a single continuum of systemic existence.
From these
concepts the Seers drew the inspiration of the highest values relevant to a
spiritual life and the knowledge of the most practical values to a physical
life : the first, finding expression in the Vedas and the second, leading to
the Vedangas.
Manduka Upanisad ( 5000
bc ) mentions six Vedangas as follows:--
The six Vedangas are –
1. Shiksha or phonetics
or pronunciation – language teaching, rules on accents (there are 60 Shikshas,
the most important originating from Panini and Manduki)
2. Kalpa or ritual
–Ceremonies, rules of Ceremonial.
3. Vyakarana or
grammar.
4. Nirukta or etymology
– explanations of words, written by Yaskacharya.
5. Chhandas or meter
–Chants, Verses.
6. Jyotisha or
astronomy.
Now we shall briefly
study about the Vedangas.
1. SHIKSHA: --
Shiksha which is Vedic
phonetics is the most important of the six Angas (organs) of the Veda Purusha.
The first Vedanga
‘Shiksha’ is the prime and primary base of all the six Vedangas, which
comprises rules regarding letters, accents, quantity, organs, enumeration,
delivery and euphonic combinations.
Shiksha played an
important role in Vedic India at a time when there was no written script and
the knowledge of the Vedas had to be transmitted from one person to another
orally for 330 centuries .
By establishing the
ground rules of proper pronunciation, it minimized the changes of distortion
that would usually accompany verbal communication.
A lot of importance was
attached in ancient India to correct pronunciation of the Vedic hymns because
of the belief that the Vedas were inviolable and divine in origin with divine
math embedded . Maharishis with fractal minds could SEE the srutis as geometry.
This auxiliary
discipline has focussed on the letters of the Sanskrit alphabet, accent,
quantity, stress, melody and rules of euphonic combination of words during a
Vedic recitation .
Shiksha developed into
a separate branch of study to preserve the integrity and purity of the divine
words and save the dharma from human fallibility.
Every veda has its own
peculiar pronunciation of certain letters and each one of them has its specific
modes and speed of recitation. The most important among the books relating to
siksha is the famous Paniniya Shiksha..
The development of
Shiksha as a Vedanga and as a Science demonstrates the profundity and vast
scope of research that was undertaken in respect of pronunciation in ancient
India.
It is because of this Vedanga that the system of Vedic recitation has
remained intact right from the ancient times to the present day.
It intends to train the
students in the art and science of articulation of words and syllables so that
they can chant the Vedic hymns perfectly, producing the desired sound
vibrations and maintain the ritual purity and efficacy of the ceremonies they
perform.
Shiksha really means
instruction, then in particular “instruction in reciting” i.e., in correct pronunciation, accentuation, phonetics,
phonology etc. of the samhita texts.
Later, it was a name
given to works containing rules regarding the proper pronunciation of Vedic
texts. Thus, the Shiksha-sutras are treatises
on phonetics.
Phonetics is most
important in the case of the Vedic language, because we see that change in
sound leads to change in results and effect.
The vibrations
generated by sounds are considered to possess immense power in Hindu mysticism
(“Akshara Brahma”) – sound is the supreme spirit.
The teachings of the
Shiksha are contained in the ancient texts known as Pratisakhyas, each attached
to a particular Samhita, providing instructions for the recitation of the hymns
contained in it.
We have another reference Shiksha called the
Manduki-Shiksha or phonetics in minimum.
Shiksha is mentioned in Taittiriyaaranyaka where the rules on Shiksha had
formally their place in this chapter of the Taittiriyaaranyaka.
Though Shiksha, the
development of the dhvani-shastra, began. The word ‘Shiksha’ first appeared in
Taittiriya-Upanishad, in which varëa, svara, matra, bala, sama, santana has
been incorporated and the research work on it had been going on since very
ancient era.
In ancient time this
Shiksha concept was developed to a great extent. All the tradition of Veda
always depend upon the perfect pronunciation. The main aim of Shiksha is always
pronounce the purified Vedic mantras (rituals).
Not only the wrong
utterance of mantras are very harmful but also it is incapable for express the
real meaning.
So in Shiksha, varna
svara matra bala sama Santana are the important theme.
The Shiksha is the
science of pronunciation of letters, accents etc. The word Shiksha is at first
derived from Taittiriya Upanisad. Shiksha
Vedanga is related to phonetic education.
In the physiology,
Shiksha is represented by the structures which compute and express the internal
aspects of the physiology, such as its biochemical constituents, temperature,
pressure etc. (the expression of the automic nervous system). These expressions
are channeled via the automic ganglia. These are 36 on each side of the spinal cord .
It is the first branch
of Vedic learning which played an important role in maintaining the purity and
integrity of the Vedic tradition. It occupies an important place in the
academic study of the Vedas.
Its study includes among its students a sense of
discipline and respect for tradition and helps them to conduct themselves in
society as upholds of the Vedic dharma and traditional family value.
This is an integral and
essential part of ancient Vedic education system, aimed to promote all-round development
of the students with a better understanding of the Vedas
A clear understanding
was set out on how basic sounds were physically generated and then shaped by
time intervals and stresses and euphonic considerations into the basic
components of speech.
We see here the first
formulations of sound into the gutturals, cerebrals, palatals, dentals and
labials; the rising, falling and modulating stresses, analogous to the modern
diacritic variations of the accent, grave and circumflex; and the euphonic changes
at word junctions.
The Scripture uses the
words Mantra, Yantra and Tantra to symbolize Thought, Object and Act meaning at
both levels requires two levels of vision, sight on one, insight on the other.
2. KALPA:
The second Vedanga is
Kalpa -- it is called arms of the veda.. Purusha.
Kalpa deals with practical ceremonial,
sacrificial and ritual aspect of the Vedas.
Technically it is the applied
science of the Vedas. The field focused
on standardizing procedures for Vedic rituals, rites of passage rituals associated
with major life events such as birth, wedding and death in family, as well as
discussing the personal conduct and proper duties of an individual in different
stages of his life.
The rituals related ancient texts are of two kinds: (1) the
Śrautasūtras, which are based on the śruti, and (2) the Smārtasūtras, or rules
based on the smriti or tradition.
Kalpa

(4) Shulba-sutras,
dealing with the rules of measurement of the fire-altars etc.
3. VYAKARANA
:
The third Vedanga is
Vyakarana or grammar, which is necessary for the understanding of the
Veda.
It is called the mouth of the veda
Purusha.
Vyakarana deals with Sanskrit
grammar or the analysis and decomposition of words, word formation, root words and
comples sentence structures, providing useful insights into the usage of words
and sentences leading to the mastery of the language.
This auxiliary discipline
has focussed on the rules of grammar and linguistic analysis to establish the
exact form of words and sentences to properly express ideas Formation of the word is the main subject of
grammar.
It discusses root (Prakriti) and suffix (Pratyaya) of a word to study
its meaning. Panini‟s Vyakarana is in the form of sutras or aphorisms.
Aphorisms are distinct from axioms. Indian sutras are theorem condensed in few
words .
Aphorisms generally originate from experience and custom, whereas axioms
are self-evident truths and therefore require no additional proof.
The term
sutra may refer to a single aphorism, a collection of aphorisms.. Each sutra is
any short rule, like a theorem distilled into few words or syllables, around
which teachings of ritual, philosophy, grammar, or any field of knowledge can
be woven..
Every school of Hindu philosophy, Vedic guides for rites of passage,
various fields of arts, law, and social ethics developed respective sutras,
which helped teach and transmit ideas from one generation to the next..
A sutra
is a condensed rule which succinctly states the message, while a Shloka is a
verse that conveys the complete message and is structured to certain rules of musical
meter. Sutras were designed so that they
can be easily communicated from a teacher to student, memorized by the
recipient for discussion or self-study or as reference..
Ancient Indians learnt
sutras of grammar, philosophy or theology by the same mechanical method which
fixes in our (modern era) minds the alphabet and the multiplication table.
A
larger collection of ancient sutra literature in Hinduism corresponds to the
six Vedangas, or six limbs of the Vedas.These are six subjects that were called
in the Vedas as necessary for complete mastery of the Vedas. The six subjects
with their own sutras were "pronunciation (Shiksha), meter (Chandas),
grammar (Vyakarana), explanation of words (Nirukta), time keeping through
astronomy (Jyotisha), and ceremonial rituals (Kalpa).
The fourteen sutras are
referred to here, as Maheswara sutras.
They were originated from Nataraja‟s
damuru sound. They are considered the foundation of grammar. Vararuchi has
written an elaborate commentary or Vartika. Sage Patanjali wrote commentary or
Bhashya on it.
Shiva sutras deal with phonetics or the accent and intonation of
distinctive units of sound that form part of the word and letter sounds.
4- NIRUKTA :-
Nirukta Vedanga is
called the ears of the veda Purusha.
Without Nirukta the
precise meanings of the Vedic stanzas cannot be understood.
None of the white
scholars who attempted to translate Vedic srutis knew Nirukta, and that is why
Vedic verse English translations of most profound wisdom , looks as if it is
MAD monkey chatter.
The shallow minded
white man has ignored the direct Sanskrit etymology and sought for some
farfetched etymology from the stupid Greeks.
A sentence is a
collection of words, a word is a collection of phonemes, according to Nirukta
scholars. The meaning of Vedic passages has to be understood through context,
purpose stated, subject matter being discussed, what is stated, how, where and
when.
Nirukta systematically
proposed theories on how words form, and then determine their meaning in order
to understand the Vedas.
Nirukta , means
"uttered, pronounced, explained, expressed, defined, loud".It also
refers to the etymological interpretation of a word, also the name of such
works. The related Sanskrit noun niruktiḥ means "poetical derivation"
or "explanation of a word."
Nirukta means etymology
and it explains the reason why a particular word has been used i.e., the meaning
of usage. Nirukta is the science of etymologies. It explains the word-roots and
derivation of meaning of words in different context. It deals with the etymological interpretations or
explanations of obscure words especially those found in the Vedas. .
Nirukta is an
explanation of words, particularly those that are archaic and have ancient uses
with unclear meaning. This auxiliary discipline has focussed on linguistic
analysis to help establish the proper meaning of the words, given the context
they are used in
Nirukta is the study
concerned with correct interpretation of Sanskrit words in the Vedas. It was one of
the six vedangas or compulsory ritual subjects in syllabus of Sanskrit
scholarship in ancient India.
The Nirukta explains how certain words get to
have their meanings, especially in the context of interpreting the Vedic texts.
It includes a system of rules for forming words from roots and affixes, and a
glossary of irregular words, and formed the basis for later lexicons and
dictionaries.
Technically it deals
with the difficult and obscure words of a dictionary, whose analysis and interpretation
is vital to the study and understanding of the Vedas which are replete with mysterious
symbolism not usually understood by all.
The most authoritative exponent of this branch of study is Yaska, a Sanskrit
grammarian and master of Sanskrit etymology, who lived several centuries before
Panini ( 5500 BC ) .
He is remembered for his monumental work called Nirukta,
which is an excellent commentary of the obscure words found in the Nighantu
(dictionary) of his time. Tradition ascribes the Nighantu also to Yaska.
The
Nighantus are five lists of words, which are again divided into three sections.
The first section consists of three lists, in which Vedic words are collected
under certain main ideas. The second section contains a list of ambiguous and
particularly difficult words of the Veda, while the third section gives a classification
of the deities according to the three regions, earth, sky and heaven.
Yaska explained
these lists in the twelve books followed. The most interesting portion of the Nirukta
is the discussion which covers the whole of the first book and a part of the
second, as well as the seventh book, which was as an admirable introduction to
the study of the Veda.
Nirukta deals with the interpretation and analysis of
difficult words and provides insight into the hidden content of the Vedas.
Since many Sanskrit words can be split into
more than one way and the
Vedas contain many obscure and unknown words,
an in-depth study of Nirukta will help students discover the latent or hidden
meaning of the Vedas and understand their linguistic and philosophic
significance.
Yāska defines four main categories of words:--
nāma – nouns or
substantives
ākhyāta – verbs
upasarga – pre-verbs or
prefixes
nipāta – particles,
invariant words (perhaps prepositions)
Nirukta is very
important for several reasons. Firstly, it represents the type of the earliest classical
style and in this respect stands by itself. Secondly, it is the oldest known
attempt in the field of Vedic etymology.
Nirukta relies upon
ancient lexicons, nighantu, as well as detailed hymn indices, anukramani. Five
nighantus existed at the time of sage Yaska, whose treatise is regarded a
standard work on Vedic etymology.
Nirukta is the
systematic creation of a glossary and it discusses how to understand archaic,
uncommon words. The study of Nirukta has been closely related to the ancillary
Vedic science of Vyakarana, but they have a different focus.
Vyakarana deals with
linguistic analysis to establish the exact form of words to properly express
ideas, while Nirukta focuses on linguistic analysis to help establish the
proper meaning of the words, given the context they are used in. The prerequisite to the study of Nirukta is
the study of Vyakarana.
Yaska, the sage,
approached this problem through a semantic analysis of words, by breaking them
down into their components, and then combined them in the context they were
used to propose what the archaic words could have meant
A central premise of
Yaska was that man creates more new words to conceptualize and describe action,
that is nouns often have verbal roots. However, added Yaska, not all words have
verbal roots. He asserted that both the meaning and the etymology of words are
always context dependent.
Words are created around object-agent, according to
Yaska, to express external or internal reality perceived by man, and are one of
six modifications of Kriya (action) and Bhava (dynamic being), namely being
born, existing, changing, increasing, decreasing and perishing.
Nirukta is devoted to the explanation of the words of
the Vedas and their lexical categories and semantics. It would be interesting
to trace the course of development of this discipline over time and across
cultures. This would make it abundantly clear and what is now universally
accepted, that the Nirukta represents the oldest and most systematic study of etymology in the history of
mankind.
The word "etymology" derives from the Greek words “etumon”,
meaning “true sense”, “logia”, meaning “‘study of’”, and from “logos”, meaning
"speech". Etymology became a study of the history of words and how
their form and meaning have changed over time.
For languages with a long
written history, Etymologists made use of texts in these languages, and texts
about the languages, to gather knowledge about how words were used at earlier
stages, and when they entered usage in the languages in question.
The
development of Etymology thus became inevitably linked with the development of Philology, a study of
languages over time and across cultures. Etymologists also applied the methods
of comparative linguistics to reconstruct information about languages that are
too old for any direct information to be available about them.
By analyzing
related languages with a technique known as the comparative method, linguists
made inferences about their shared parent language and its vocabulary. In this
way, word roots were found which could be traced all the way back to the origin
of, for instance, the Indo-European language family.

5- CHANDAS :-
Sanskrit prosody or
Chandas is one of the six Vedangas, or limbs of Vedic studies. It is the study
of poetic metres and verse in Sanskrit. This field of study was central to the
composition of the Vedas
Vedic meter refers to
the poetic meter in the Vedic literature. The study of Vedic meters, along with
post-Vedic meters, is part of Chandas, one of the six Vedanga disciplines
The science of metres.
Chhanda deals with the analysis of the types of meter used in the construction
of various Vedic hymns.
The Chandas, as
developed by the Vedic schools, included both linear and non-linear systems. The
system was organized around seven major metres each had its own rhythm,
movements and aesthetics wherein a non-linear structure (aperiodicity) was
mapped into a four verse polymorphic linear sequence.
Sanskrit metres include those based on a fixed
number of syllables per verse, and those based on fixed number of morae per
verse.. A mora is a unit in phonology
that determines syllable weight, which in some languages determines stress or
timing.
The mora was first
expressed in India as the mātrā. For example, the short vowel "a"
(pronounced like a schwa) is assigned a value of one mātrā, the long vowel
"ā" is assigned a value of two mātrās, and the compound vowel
(diphthong) "ai" (which has either two simple short vowels,
"a"+"i", or one long and one short vowel,
"ā"+"i") is assigned a value of two mātrās…
Sanskrit prosody and
metrics have a deep history of taking into account moraic weight, as it were,
rather than straight syllables, divided into "laghu" (लघु,
"light") and "dīrgha" / "guru" (दीर्घ
/ गुरु,
"heavy") feet based on how many morae can be isolated in each word.
The chhandas of a mantra determines its usage, such as its purpose and
context. But is acts more as an error-correcting mechanism.
Vedas went orally for 330 centuries before
being penned down 70 centuries ago..
Since the Veda is an oral tradition, any
aberration in the chhandas because of error in text or the swara ( poison
injection by the white invader ) , can be easily identified and corrected.

Ancient Indians devised

This description evolved into the formal study of meter. Both meter and the
study of meter are called chandas.
In Sanskrit, the word “
Pada” is used as the metrical unit. The measurement is made depending on the
number of syllables used.
Pāda is the Sanskrit
term for "foot" with derived meanings "step, stride; footprint,
trace; vestige, mark". The term has a wide range of applications,
including any one of four parts (as it were one foot of a quadruped), or any
sub-division more generally, e.g. a chapter of a book (originally a section of
a book divided in four parts).
As a measure of length,
a pada amounts to 12 or 15 fingers' breadth, or 1/2 or 1/3 or 3/7 of a
Prakrama.
In Sanskrit grammar, a
pada is any inflected word (noun or verb).
Syllables are classified into two categories,
Guru and Laghu. A string of Guru – Laghu sequence of a particular length is
called a meter.
Rig and Sama Vedas are
fully in the form of verses, whereas, Yajur Veda has prose and poetry. A Sloka
or Vedamantra is generally a quarted with four quarters or Paada.
The shortest and most
sacred of Vedic meters is the Gayatri metre.
It consists of three octosyllabic feet (pada, 3x8) with 24 syllables.

Depending on the
emphasis (da or DUM), the Vedic poets developed many varieties of each meter,
including the Gayatri. Of these, 11
varieties of Gayatri meter were particularly used in the Rigveda.
Each eight
syllable line of the Rigveda, is almost exactly equivalent to the Greek iambic
dimeter ( LIFTED by white skinned thieves)..
Iambic: Unstressed syllable followed by a stressed Syllable.

The sacred Gayatri
meter consists of three of such iambic dimeter lines, and this embedded meter
alone is at the heart of about 25% of the entire Rigveda. The only meter more commonly used in Rigveda,
than Gayatri, is the Tristubh meter consisting of 4x11 structure (44
syllables).
The structure of Gayatri and other Vedic meters is more
experimental and flexible than post-Vedic meters.
Triṣṭubh is the name of fi (four padas of eleven
syllables each), or any hymn composed in this meter. It is the most prevalent
meter of the Rigveda, accounting for roughly 40% of its verses.
The Bhagavad
Gita, while mostly composed in shloka (developed from the Vedic Anustubh) is
interspersed with Tristubhs, for example in the passage beginning at chapter
11, verse 15, when Arjuna begins speaking in Tristubhs.
Depending on the style
(first syllable optionally short or long), the syllables of each couplet are

creation of any human being. It is divine and only visualized by the ancient

In Sanskrit verses,
each of the 4 Paadas of a sloka can have 26 letters. If the letters of each
Paadas increase to 27,30,33,36 (other multiples of 3 beyond 27), then this
slokam is recognized as a Dhandakam. The
3 lettered units are known as a Gana.
Thus a 27 lettered Paada will have 9
Ganas.There is generally no restriction on the length of the Paada in a
Dhandakam

Chanda helps us to
ensure the form of the Mantra (by meter count). No alteration to this can be attempted
since it would disturb the spiritual significance of the mantra itself. In Sanskrit, the metrical unit is known as
pada (foot).
The knowledge of the
Chanda proved useful in the composition of the smriti literature. It also
played an important role in the emergence of classical Indian music and
Sanskrit poetry besides providing a frame work of reference for compositions
languages.
Chandas has focussed on
the poetic meters, including those based on fixed number of syllables per

Vedic mantras have

The last Vedanga
Jyotisha is called eye the organ of sight, of the Veda purusha.
Every Indian Hindu has
his horoscope made. No marriages are conducted without an astrologer matching

Panchāngam involves elaborate mathematical work involving high level of
spherical geometry and sound understanding of astronomical phenomena, such as
sidereal movements of heavenly bodies. However, in practice the tabulation is
done on the basis of short-cut formulations as propounded by ancient Vedic
sages
A typical Panchangam (
celestial almanac ) states tabulations of positions of Sun, Moon, and other
planets for every day of the year on a fixed place (longitude, latitude) and
time of day (in 24-hour format IST). There is NO speculation, it is pure math.

Accuracy of attributes
depending upon the Moon's motions were considered most crucial for the
reliability of a panchāngam, because the Moon is the fastest among all heavenly
entities shown in traditional panchāngas..
Panchānga is a Sanskrit ?Malayalam word,
literally meaning "having five limbs". If these five limbs, for
example, the five attributes depending upon Moon, are accurate, an almanac is
held to be reliable, because other elements are not so difficult to compute due
to their slow rates of change.
The Hindu calendar has
five (pancha) limbs (anga), concerning five elements of time division--
"five attributes" of the day ..These are: vara, tithi, nakshatra, yog
and karana
Tithi - Ending Moment
(EM) of elongation of the Moon, the lunar day, the angular relationship between
Sun and Moon ( Apparent Moon minus Apparent Sun). Tithis are the dates of Lunar Calendar.. The
method of calculating tithis is based on “Surya Siddhanta” written by Maya
Danava.. Tithi is calculated with help of position of Sun and Moon in transit.
Tithi = (Moon Longitude
- Sun Longitude) / 12 . If the calculated result is greater than 15, we have to
substract 15 from the result. . A lunar month consists of 30 tithis, whose
start time and duration vary. The moment of new Moon, or that point of time
when the longitudes of Sun and Moon are equal is called ‘amavasya’. The tithi
is the time taken by the Moon in increasing its distance from the Sun by 12
degrees.
The complete revolution
of the Moon 29.5 days) occupies 30 tithis for 360 degrees. Since the motions of
the Sun and Moon are always varying in speed the length of a tithi constantly
alters. From the point of view of a calendar, a tithi begins on one day and
ends on the following day. However, the length of the tithi alters quite often
since the apparent motions are not linear.
One Tithi ends at the
moment of time when the angular distance between the Sun and Moon becomes an
integral multiple of 12°. In other words, a tithi ends at the same constant of
time for all places on Earth and a tithi is not sensitive to the longitude (or
latitude) of the region.
The moment of Sunrise
of course varies with longitude and therefore local time of Moon’s entry into
any tithi will differ at different places. Lunation is the time taken by the
Moon to complete one revolution around the Earth. The 360 deg angular path of
the Moon in the sky is divided into 10,000 parts and 1 art, the finest possible
resolution amounts 2.16 arc min .
The time between two
conjunctions is a synodic lunar month. The smallest unit of measure of a tithi
is 1/10,000th part of an apparent sidereal revolution of the Moon. When the
angular difference between the Sun and Moon is less than +2.16 (measured
eastward angle), the Sun and Moon are said to be in conjunction. This moment of
time is said to be the amavasya moment or new Moon.
To travel 21,600′ of
arc, (360 deg) Moon takes 29.53 (solar) days or 42,480 minutes. So, to travel
2.16 of arc it takes 4.25 minutes. The Moon remains in this position for
approximately 4.25 minutes. This interval defines the accuracy of all
astronomical observations in ancient Indian calendar.
Since Amavasya (new
Moon) lasts for the movement of the Moon from -2.16 to + 2.16 Around the Sun,
it last for 8.50 minutes only
A lunation, i.e. rotation
by 360° is divided into 30 tithis. 1/30th of a lunation represents the time
duration of a tithi or the angular movement of 12°. Since the lunation is
divided into 10,000 parts about 333 (10,000/30) parts go to one tithi, 667 to 2
tithis and so on. While movement of the Moon is measured with respect to the
Sun, the movement of the Sun itself (with respect to the background stars) is,
in reality, a measure of the movement of the Earth with respect to the Sun.
The Moon travels much
faster than the Earth in the sky. Hence the absolute angular distance of Moon
and Sun or their distance from one another increases continuously for the first
half of the month and decreases during the second half of the month till
another conjunction occurs.
Nakshatra - EM of
astarism of the day, that is, the stellar mansion in which Moon is located for
an observer at the center of the Earth. One Nakshatra equals 13 degrees:20
minutes. There are 27 Nakshatra in 360 degrees. Nakshtra = Moon Longitude / 13
deg. 20 min..
The time, which the Moon requires to travel over the 27th part of
the ecliptic, is called ‘nakshatra’. During the traversal of Moon around the
Earth it was noticed that the Moon is close to some of the fixed heavenly
bodies (stars). Twenty-seven stars that all on the path of the Moon identified.
In 29.5 days, that is,
Moon’s one synodic revolution, Moon travels through 27 stars that were said to
form the 27 Nakshatras.
Hence, on an average
Moon travels one nakshatra everyday. The star, which is closest to the Moon on
its path, is called Moon’s Nakshatra.
In order to map this
movement in the sky, different paths of the movement of the Moon are divided as
per the nearest star or constellation. The names of the 27 regions, called the
27 Nakshatras
These are used to
define a month. The name of a lunar month is given by the location of the Moon
on the Full Moon day. Each region is about 13 deg 20 minutes in the sky.
Yog - EM of the angular
relationship between Sun and Moon( Apparent Moon plus Apparent Sun). One Yog
equals 13 degrees:20 minutes. There are 27 Yogs in 360 degrees. Yog = (Moon
Longitude + Sun Longitude) / 13 deg. 20 min. It is the period of time during
which the distance between the Sun and Moon is increased by 13° 20′. This is
about 1 day.
Karana - Karana =
(Tithi) / 2.. The karana is half the tithi or during which the difference of
the longitudes of Sun and Moon is increased by 6°.
Var weekday the seven
weekdays. It is the name of the day like Monday, Tuesday etc.
A lunar calendar is
based on the moon's rotation around the Earth.

waited, and at the end of the musical performances he offered his obeisances to
Lord Brahma and thus submitted his long-standing desire.
After hearing his
words, Lord Brahma, who is most powerful, laughed loudly and said to
Kakudmi,--“O King, all those whom you may have decided within the core of your
heart to accept as your son-in-law have passed away in the course of time.
Twenty-seven catur-yugas have already passed. Those upon whom you may have
decided are now gone, and so are their sons, grandsons, and other descendants.
You cannot even hear about their names.”
King Kakudmi’s visit to
Brahmaloka took 27 times 4,320,000 earth years.
Brahma’s time King Kakudmi’s visit lasted 3,456 seconds, or just under
an hour. The king had had to wait for a
musical performance to finish before having a brief conversation with Lord
Brahma.
Kakudmi and Revati then
returned to earth which they regarded as having left only just a short while
