Loaded statements are like icebergs: There's a little portion that you see, and a much larger portion that lurks below the surface.

They typically carry associated meaning that's tied to issues of larger importance, but because they're delivered in an instant, the true import of such statements can sometimes be overlooked.

You say something that will enflame passions in people, either positive or negative, and could also have a double meaning or a hidden meaning.

A loaded question or complex question fallacy is a question that contains a controversial or unjustified assumption (e.g., a presumption of guilt)

A loaded question is a question with a false or questionable presupposition, and it is "loaded" with that presumption. "Have you stopped snorting drugs?" is a loaded question as it assumes you have been snorting drugs prior to it's asking, as well as assuming you have cocaine.

A loaded question is a logical fallacy that occurs when statements or questions are designed to confuse listeners into tacitly accepting something (which isn't obviously clear in the question) as true.

A common way out of this argument is not to answer the question (e.g. with a simple 'yes' or 'no'), but to challenge the assumption behind the question.

A good response to the question "Have you stopped beating your wife?" would be "I have never beaten my wife" . This removes the ambiguity of the expected response, therefore nullifying the tactic.

However, the askers of said questions have learned to get around this tactic by accusing the one who answers of dodging the question.

Loaded language is more generic because any words can be redefined for any reason, to support any agenda, and to mask any activity.

This is a form of hiding behind others, where you make other people appear to be saying what you are really saying.

To put words in somebody else's mouth, is to insinuate verbally that a person said something, although they did not say it. This is an idiom that is used negatively.

When someone says "You're putting words in my mouth" That means that, that person is twisting someones words around, or saying that they said something, when they didn't.

"I didn't say that!!" is a closer synonym.

################ SWEEPING GENERALISATION

Project grand, sweeping generalizations from minimal information:

Extrapolate sweeping generalities from just a few facts.

"I know three Egyptians in Suez Canal, and all three of them are sleazy and dishonest and underhanded and will cheat you whenever they get a chance. Therefore all Egyptians are dishonest and untrustworthy."

Apply general patterns or stereotypes to specific cases:

"You are a skeptic, so you just can't understand how people experience God."

The fallacy of sweeping generalization is at work when a statistical average is applied to specific people.

Example: "Divorce is rampant in America, Mary. I heard that 55% of marriages end in divorce within three years. So I've decided not to marry you because the odds are against us."

A sweeping generalisation applies a general statement too broadly. If one takes a general rule, and applies it to a case to which, due to the specific features of the case, the rule does not apply, then one commits the sweeping generalisation fallacy. This fallacy is the reverse of a hasty generalisation, which infers a general rule from a specific case.

Example

(1) Children should be seen and not heard.

(2) Little Wolfgang Amadeus is a child.

Therefore:

(3) Little Wolfgang Amadeus shouldn’t be heard.

No matter what you think of the general principle that children should be seen and not heard, a child prodigy pianist about to perform is worth listening to; the general principle doesn’t apply.

A sweeping generalization is when someone assumes something where it does not apply. Try not to get this confused with hasty generalization. Most generalizations are not universal; they have exceptions. They do not apply to everything. To ignore this fact is to commit a logical fallacy.

For example:

Jogging is good for the heart.

Thirumati Muniyamma has a heart problem.

Therefore she should go jogging more often.

It is true that jogging is generally good for the heart, but not for everyone. Most people with a heart condition would only worsen their condition by jogging. Therefore, there is an exception to jogging being good for your heart, it is bad when you have a certain heart condition, so this does not apply to Joe.

Hasty generalization usually shows this pattern

X is true for A.

X is true for B.

Therefore, X is true for C, D, etc.

For example, if a person travels through a town for the first time and sees 10 people, all of them children, they may erroneously conclude that there are no adult residents in the town.

When referring to a generalization made from a single example it has been called the fallacy of the lonely fact or the proof by example fallacy.

When evidence is intentionally excluded to bias the result, it is sometimes termed the fallacy of exclusion and is a form of selection bias.

This uses tireless repetition of an idea. An idea, especially a simple slogan, that is repeated enough times, may begin to be taken as the truth. This approach is more effective alongside the propagandist limiting or controlling the media.

Ad nauseam is a Latin term for argument or other discussion that has continued 'to [the point of] nausea'.

For example, the sentence "This topic has been discussed ad nauseam" signifies that the topic in question has been discussed extensively, and that those involved in the discussion have grown tired of it. The fallacy is also called argumentum ad infinitum ('to infinity'), and argument from repetition.

An argument made repeatedly (possibly by different people) until nobody cares to discuss it any more. This may sometimes, but not always, be a form of proof by assertion

In other words, it refers not to something initially or topically unpleasant; rather, it is something discussed to the point of being so.

This Latin phrase comes from a term in logic, the argumentum ad nauseam, in which debaters wear out the opposition by just repeating arguments until they get sick of the whole thing and give in -- continue to sea sickness .

Hi Captain,
I boil the water and when it is less hot before sleep i put that water in copper lota and i put full round supari and an iron magnet in it for the whole night. Next morning i wake up and chant gayatri mantra 21 times by touching the lota in front or morning sun and then whole family then drink the water. I also once in every two days wash the lota with tamarind. Can i also tie a darbha grass in my ring finger and touch that finger in the lota? People understood that the Fed was manufacturing dollars out of thin air and started to pull their money out of banks, converting them to gold. Roosevelt closed the banks, then announced it was illegal to own gold.

Jew FDR forced the American people to give back private gold to the Fed –all of which went to Jew Rothschild’s private vaults. In 1933 Roosevelt made the dollar fiat currency domestically, but backed by gold internationally.

A Presidential Executive Order by Roosevelt on April 5, 1933, required all the people to exchange their gold coins, gold bullion, and gold-backed currency for money that was not redeemable in precious metals. The Gold Reserve Act of 1934, known as the Thomas Amendment which amended the Act of May 12, 1933, made it illegal to possess any gold currency (which was [finally] rescinded December 31, 1974).

Gold coinage was withdrawn from circulation and kept in the form of bullion. Just as the public was to return all their gold to the U.S. Government, so was the Federal Reserve. However, while the people received $20.67 per ounce in paper money issued by the Federal Reserve, the Reserve was paid in Gold Certificates. Now the Jew Rothschild / Federal Reserve had total control of all the gold in the country.

The United States Gold Reserve Act of January 30, 1934 required that all gold and gold certificates held by the Federal Reserve be surrendered and vested in the sole title of the United States Department of the Treasury.

I am from Fiji and am well aware of our "sordid" history. I made it may mission to find my ancestral village in Uttar Pradesh in the 1970's, whilst being a student of Bangalore University. It was a dream fulfilled in that a long lost son having come back to his original home.
I still maintain close contact with my family roots in the village and have also taken my son there as well, to remind and educate him about how and what the fucking British did to our people.
I cannot describe to you, having read your blog, as to how irked I am as regards the Muslim conquest of Hindu Bharat, and the untold and incomprehensible destruction they caused to our culture and way of life.
In Fiji we continue to maintain our Hindu culture as best we can.
A question I would like to ask is , in addition to asking for apologies from the British vis-a -vis the indenture system of slavery, would you be able to assist in also seeking reparation's from the British for the blatant disregard of human rights abuses caused to our forefathers in all the former colonies where they were taken to work on the sugar plantations?
In March 2017, it will be a 100 years since the indenture system of slavery was abolished. The organisers for this conference is Fiji Girmit on Facebook if you would be interested to know more about this forthcoming forum.
