Readers many wonder why I am posting this checklist.
This list is 25 years old, I have just modified it to the ISPS era.
25 years ago I was sent on a Moghul lines ship, to introduce SCI practises, after the merger . Frankly this was tougher than expected.
A new SCI chief engineer comes and takes over form my ex-Moghul line chief engineer.
The new SCI chief engineer comes to my cabin for a signature. I asked him " Have you taken over properly-- the way we do ?"
He replied " I have been handed over the Moghul line way. It is usually a beer and a handshake !"
I told him to come along with the outgoing chief engineer after 20 minutes, and in between I whipped up this checklist-- where both chief engineers have to initial every check list item.
So , after 20 minues I told both--this is what I want.
Before the outgoing ex-Moghul line Chief engineer could present his case -- I was NOT handed over this way BLAH BLAH -- I am a reader of body language --
I told him " Listen I caught you red handed " ARYAING " a dinner set , along with the crew. ( He was dragging it down the alleyway actually-- in a disgraceful manner ) . Do you want my official sympathies or not? .
It was a no-contest --
This list is the bare minimum standard.

CHIEF ENGINEER’S FAMILIARISATION
(This checklist must be used during Chief Engineer’s change over )
The following items must be discussed by both chief engineers during Handing Over / Taking Over, signed as a mark of compliance and filed with the change over documents. One copy must be retained by the outgoing Chief Engineer

IN THE LINK ABOVE READ ITEM 68--68)The VDR on monkey island does not have HRU. It goes down along with ship 5 kilometers deep into the ocean , where ship sinks. This is a design defect as the unit is too heavy. It has no marine use—it is not a blackbox of an air craft.
THE VDR IS MOUNTED ON TOP DECK OF THE SHIP-- TO FLOAT FREE.. YET IT DOES NOT HAVE A HRU..( HYDROSTATIC RELEASE UNIT )..
WHEN I WENT TO TAKE DELIVERY OF THE NEW SHIP-- EIGHT SISTER SHIPS HAD BEEN ALREADY DELIVERED TO WHITE EUROPEAN SHIP CAPTAINS.. NOBODY HAD A PROBLEM ( ALL ASSHOLES )
THE EUROPEAN YARD / MAKERS OF EQUIPMENT WERE MAHAAAAA MIFFED WITH BAAAAD CAPTAIN VADAKAYIL FOR EXHUMING MORE THAN MAJOR 1000 DEFECTS WITHIN TWO WEEKS..

Hi Sir, two things i noticed today -
ReplyDelete1) the yagya is done in an upside down pyramid, so basically instead of collecting energy it throws out energy compared to the pyramids.
2) the story of the movie "Matrix" seems to be the same story as ours. Like Neo turns out to be the "one" like the avatar of God in our culture.
According to me an avatar of God would be the Strategic Infliction point of human civilization.
One question rather a small problem when Lifeboat manoeuvers are required during the Safety Equipment Annual surveys, when the vessel is alongside in a port [oil/dry-cargo]. I am told that the port authorities donot allow any manoeuvers of lifeboat. Oil terminals is understandable, but I am told that even the dry cargo terminals donot allow. I have to take this arguemant on face value so, I have insisted on lowering the lifeboat just a little and retrieve it back. But I have no means to verify this claim that ports donot allow manoeuvering. Please advise.

i would offer to change cargo grades which had never been tried before at sea.
for example-- i would offer to change grade from viscous lub oils to potable ethanol or methanol fibre grade in brazil/ argentina and that too without going out to sea for open tankcleaning after unloading luboil .
