your ego is a field of conscious awareness that identifies with your physical body. it thinks it has needs, and because it thinks it has needs, it develops fears about not being able to get its needs met. whenever you get, upset, impatient, anxious or fearful it is because you believe you have an unmet need. the principal needs of the ego are survival, safety and security.

 

he ego builds after 27 months of age to act as a buffer to protect itself from the pain of separation it experiences when it is operating in a three-dimensional material world. that the ego is not who you are; it’s who you think you are. it is the personality mask you wear to get your needs met in the cultural framework of your existence.

 

because the soul identifies with your energy field and not with your physical body, your soul knows it cannot die: consequently, it has no fears. not only does the soul have no fears, it also has no needs. at the soul level, we live in a state of oneness. there is no separation. at this level of existence, giving becomes the same as receiving:

 

if you want to feel a sense of well-being and find fulfilment in your life you must learn how to master or release your ego’s fears.

 

the ego is your body-mind self, or your false self. the ego is founded on identification with your body and mind at the object-pole of attention. the ego exercises iq and eq but has no access to sq.

 

 

sq as ‘our most fundamental intelligence. it is what we use to develop our capacity for meaning, vision and value. it allows us to dream and to strive. it underlies the things we believe in and the role our beliefs and values play in the actions that we take. spiritual intelligence explores how accessing our sq helps us to live up to our potential for better, more satisfying lives

 

spiritual quotient is going beyond your cognitive and emotional skills.

 

it is living in humility; bearing in mind that yoursoul is a splinter of brahman the mother field albeit at a lower frequency..   a understanding of sq motivates people to balance their work commitments, time with family and inner growth.

 

we humans are built-in with spirituality with soul as our core. we are spiritual beings.

 

during sannyasa, you gain a sense of the reason for human existence.

 

in sanatana dharma, sannyasa ashrama is set aside for inner dialogues and reducing the karmic baggage. being creative for society reduces the karmic baggage. vadakayil is creative in his vanaprastha ashrama , by penning blogs with no motive for profit.. to youngsters who are about to take up a career , i will tell them this—“never take up a job in which you cannot apply your own conscience” this is in case you want to happy , when your work is a continuous festival of joyful play. then you can have a face without lines, like yours truly- at the age of 66.

 

 in the hindu system four stages of life have been prescribed: brahmacharya (student celibate life), grihastha (family life), vanaprastha (literally, living in a forest), sanyasa (total renunciation as sannyasi , total freedom with nothing left to lose ).

 

in grihasta ashrama, man must marry and procreate.. brahmacharyam is the “on the path to brahman” and this has nothing to do with semen the way jew rothschild injected into our scriptures and used his agents like gandhi to propagate.  

 

self control as meant by brahmacharya brings a healthy relationship into your life and, being so channeled, gives great strength and energy, as patanjali has explained. the word brahmacharya literally means a lifestyle adopted to seek and understand brahman – the ultimate reality. it means “devoting oneself to brahman”.

 

brahmacharya is the virtue of celibacy when unmarried and fidelity when married. . procreation is gods equation..  love , when it culminates in procreation is the most beautiful thing.. 

 

sex must be face to face , eye to eye, chakra meeting chakra ( for electrified sperm prodicing champion babies  )  – not doggie position where the woman is fantasizing of the large dong of her filthy office peon. ..

 

it represents a virtuous lifestyle that also includes simple living owning only what you need. brahmacharya is a means, not an end. . brahmacharya is about allocation: using your resources effectively to achieve your aspiration. brahmacharya means not misusing sex.

 

brahmacharya means ‘to respect the creative power of sex and not abuse it by manipulating others sexually.. the sex you have with your wife is love. the sex you have with a whore is lust.

 

like the other yamas, brahmacharya has to do with balance, and how we choose to use or “invest” our resources. each and every act and thought is an outflow of energy. some thoughts and actions offer beneficial dividends, while others simply drain our resources. in the name of continence, we are asked to be wise investors.

 

the yamas all center around intuitive ways of being, and of treating ourselves and others, so that we can be more connected internally and externally. the yamas are about how to treat others – to achieve the aim of dissolving otherness. 

 

yama is personal practices consisting of ahimsa (noninjury), satya (truthfulness), asteya (not appropriating what belongs to others), brahmacharya (moving toward ultimate truth or brahman), and aparigraha (non-acceptance of gifts).

 

brahmacharya is about harnessing the energy or power of our senses and directing that instead to greater personal understanding- not withholding semen. virya  implies the indomitable courage and will to follow the path of yoga. this determination will bring us back on the path of yoga when the mind is distracted by the sensual objects..

each one of these four aspects of antahakarana or mind has specific functions and the quality of its functioning depends on the guna that is predominant. we identify with the ego, and we function most of the time as the ego.. the rajasotamasic ego functions through identification, projection and imagination, and makes us identify with the body and everything that exists and happens in the body, i.e. mind, senses, vital energy, thoughts, emotions, sensations etc.

 

due to rajasotamasic ego we feel the strong sense of 'i am the body' or more accurately 'the body is me’.  this identification with the body creates the illusion that we are separate entities, living as if we were separate from god—that mind and soul are separate. 

 

the ego makes us identify with the external objects and persons.  lower ego make us identify with thoughts, feelings, fantasies, beliefs, memories, opinions and externally with objects, people, situations, teams, religions and collective entities. this causes deceit to convert , inquisitions and “kill them kaffirs” mentality..  

 

the ego makes us compete in a faalthu manner with the joneses..  purusha simply just is. but, because of the presence of prakriti, purusha gets attracted to nature in the way a man is attracted when he watches a beautiful woman dancing.

 

he cannot help but try to get closer. and then the disaster occurs: purusha becomes trapped inside prakriti.   purusha gets more and more entangled in prakriti. soon purusha forgets that it was ever separate and ceases to struggle to regain its freedom. 

 

atman is intrinsically and unchangeably free, complete, whole.  it is pure awareness, self-contained.  when atman manifests as purush and ‘joins’ with prakriti, it is playing the game of life.  the object of the game is liberation, salvation, kaivalya, or complete isolation or freedom from all pain and imperfection.  

 

because of these identifications and the attachment we develop towards them, they become an extension of ourselves. so, we feel everything that we relate with (my car, my wife, my child, my garden, my phone, my tablet, my jacket, etc..) as a part of ourselves (more precisely as a part of our ego).

 

that’s why when we lose them we experience unnecessary pain or suffering. the intensity of suffering depends on how strong is our attachment to them. a sannyasi is free as he has nothing left to lose. 

 

the ego is the root-cause and creator of numerous identifications, projections, attachments and delusions, which cause suffering on a personal and collective level.  we must detach and disidentify with prakriti as body, mind and external world, which is to return to the purusha or consciousness principle as our true nature.

 

this is what yoga strives for in its control of the vrittis of the mind.  yoga teaches us to observe prakriti, including our mind-body complex, so that we can return to the purusha, our true nature as the seer.  man deluded by the sense “i”, thinks, “i am the doer.”.. 

 

the most powerful practice is svadyaya ( contemplation ) to bring attention to the forms of prakriti, progressing from the grossest experience of the material world to the subtle aspect of the mind. animals cannot contemplate , only conscious humans can. 

 

whether it is sattva or rajas or tamas, the gunas are part of prakriti and responsible for our ignorance, delusion, bondage and suffering on earth. when they are active, we remain bound to one thing or another. we cannot be free, until they are fully resolved.  even though it is pure, sattva is but an instrument of prakriti, which is meant to serve its ends by keeping us bound to the worldly life under the sovereign control of its sovereign master.

 

hence, one may cultivate purity (sattva) to suppress the other two, but in the end must rise above all the three and become stabilized in equanimity, sameness, and oneness of the self.   one should go beyond the three gunas to attain immortality and freedom from birth, death, old age and sorrow..

have you ever tried reading the old bible testament? ..  it is not fit to be preached in church to a family with a 15 year old daughter.  she might ask what lot did on topof the mountain to his daughters. or she might ask what the hell is written in the first corinthians, about incest—about a young girl being at the fruit of her age, blah blah - he has done well and if he gives her in marriage he would have done better -- blah blah.

only an absolute idiot will try to change adi shankarachrya’s verse meter style and his basic thinking pattern —this includes the main advaita philosophy taught by him as he cannot change his basic philosophy, which has become a part of his life itself..the main methods of evaluation is perusing the sanskrit verse prosody ( chanda ) and this includes colophon, writing style, chanda, matra, meter, terminology, grammar, etc used..the chandas, as developed by the vedic schools, were notable for including both linear and non-linear systems..

 

the structure of meters in sanskrit prosody include those based on fixed number of syllables per verse, and those based on fixed number of morae per verse. in vedic culture, the chandas were revered for their perfection and resonance.. compilations of sanskrit prosody contain over 1000 meters. panini’s treatise on sanskrit grammar distinguishes chandas as verses that compose the vedas..

 

bhaja govindam is metrically highly irregular. it does not follow the same chandas throughout. not a single stanzas is the totaka meter. adi shankaracharya in all his wisdom created 4 original mutts in the 4 corners of india ( sringeri/ puri/ dwarka/ badrinath ) and distributed the 4 vedas and 108 upanishads..

 

there was a caveat, that each veda must be in the custody of a kerala namboodiri who is proficient in veda sruti oral transmission, to make sure the sound uttered has utmost purity and the  metering/ prosody / morae of vedic srutis are 100% congruent..

in today’s era that is filled with hatred and insensitivity, perhaps a little dose of understanding about our own spiritual dimension would all do us some good.

 

through contemplative practices and spiritual aspiration, we can learn to live in a closer relationship with this deepest and unique aspect of ourselves, this place where inner guidance can come through when we need it most.

 

the more we meditate with love, and work upon ourselves with compassion, the more our personal impurities, both conscious and unconscious, will gradually leave us and be replaced by the growing energies of real love and understanding

 

iq measures the intellectual capacity of a person. eq measures the person's self-awareness, feeling of empathy and their capability to be sensitive to other’s feelings. whereas, sq refers to a person’s ability to build their capacity for meaning of life, the vision and value they hold, and understand the elements that make them dream and strive for self actualization.

 

it has interface with spirituality to help oneself create a balance amongst the various facets of their life.

 

spiritual intelligence is linked to hemisphere synchronization and entire brain activation..

 

spirituality increases the ability of a person to be creative and to be aware and insightful. the power of intuition and awareness can be increased with help of spirituality

human beings have five senses: sight (eyes), hearing (ears), taste (tongue), smell (nose), and touch (sensatory). spirituality is the ability to recognize that there is intelligence beyond our five senses.

we, human beings, carry big egos, and want to feel all important. we tend to get swayed with our power, status and money. we never realize if we are that important in this world. our arrogance or our humility spoils our relations with so many people. human race has progressed on innumerable innovations made. with each innovation, the level of comfort enjoyed is higher

 

hough we have made materialistic progress, though we have too many comforts compared to previous generations are we really happier? here is where spirituality helps us to find our inner peace of mind. a long and healthy life is important for any individual. ill-health can either halt one’s progress or, even if one succeeds, result in the ‘gifts’ of a heart disease, blood pressure or diabetes. a happy individual also builds a happy family and society.

 

nowadays we have chutney marys’ giving lawyer talk “ i am soul hurt , instead of saying the truth, “ i am butt hurt boomeranged by my own ego”

 

spiritual quotient therefore is the ability of an individual to see his personal vision and the consequent endeavor to achieve the same through the understanding of the larger good to the society, bringing good health and happiness to him and the world at large.

 

people with a strong spiritual life had an 25% reduction in mortality and hospital bills..

 

unless we set apart time in our daily busy schedule to make steady progress in our spiritual journey, we will not get time to even think about these issues. spirituality brings depth to an individual’s approach and perspective towards leading a more meaningful life. 

 

as humans we get wrong ideas about so many aspects; each of us is busy trying to prove our worth. each one of us is trying to be better than somebody, how many of us have destroyed ourselves in the rat race…..

 

how many of us have wasted our time, efforts, energy and almost everything on this planet just trying to look a little better than somebody else. do we really need all these fancy gadgets and golf courses to be happy?

He does proactive change by seeking out reasons for change rather than waiting for them to arise. He can deal with change as a matter of heart as well as the head.

 

Change demands energy. Hours of worry will drain your energy. The path through change is rarely smooth or predictable. The first need is to recognise the need for change and let go of old ways.

 

He can build inner  awareness of the need and impact of change.  He drops his ego.  He admits to himself if he has made mistakes in the past. His new way is not to be judged as better/ worse or right/ wrong. They are simply new and need to be learned practiced and judged on their merits.

 

Yoga has given him a sense of autonomy and self direction. He forges the hinges of destiny on his own terms. He rarely seeks the comfort zone. He seeks new balance and direction.  He can  establish new attitudes and beliefs .

 

The Yogi uses his free choice and does NOT sweat the small stuff. He will NOT short sell himself . He knows how to let go at the right time.

 

Happiness is a victory lap of positive forces over negative forces in your life.  A yogi can weed out negative thought.  Freedom from want is his greatest liberator. The gambler who waits for one more throw of the dice  is not exactly liberated.

 

A yogi is free from worry, compulsive thinking , negativity and pathetic clinging . He can put himself in another person’s shoes to view from another perspective-laterally.  He does NOT engage in tunnel vision . His is NOT stuck in microscope mode— he can pull back his lens at will and go to telescope mode.

 

Of course he is NOT a dim-wit. He can use pain for feedback.  He uses  pain as a message from the universal forces. He can follow his  emotions but he know when to control them.  He knows that an easy and calm mind can only be attained when emotions are allowed a safe expression.

 

He can separate his  pride from the situation in hand.  He does NOT take things personally and get hajaar hypersensitive.. He does NOT swell on nasty remarks . He is able to ignore run down battery torches who endlessly challenges the sun.

 

He has the innate ability to move on after grieving. He does NOT get mired in self pity . He is NOT the crying type.  He sees possibilities in every problem.  He can enjoy even a uncomfortable moment and then give a moonh todh full blooded shot. The Gita teaches us to give full blooded shots.

 

The yogi has grace under pressure. He does NOT expect too much .He does NOT concentrate on what he does NOT have. He can count his blessings.

 

He does NOT break his own word to himself consistently. He is NOT addicted to emotional drama, hysteria and cynicism. . He does NOT seek happiness at the expense of anothers deep unhappiness – even if it were his enemy..
