CREDIT CARD FRAUD BY YATRA DOT COM -- CAPT AJIT VADAKAYIL

YATRA.COM CHEATING SCHEME-- ELITE PROGRAMME --CREDIT CARD NUMBER MISUSE

This is for CBI and criminal agencies to take note -- a copy of which will be going to them.

This is also for all major credit card companies to take note.

Yatra dot com has been cheating several people by using the mobile telephone.

You will get a call , with lot of background noise , from a person who speaks good English--introducing himself as an employee of YATRA DOT COM.

He will start of by saying that this conversation is being recorded for a training programme.

He will tell you that you are one of their good customers , as you have given them good business and that they want to present you with their free branded watch costing 3500 rupees.

Then he will want your home address, to send the courier package to--

-- there is a method to all what follows .

He will keep making mistakes in writing down your address, and get many YES responses from you, as an answer to " Is this correct? "

Then he will say he has to verify that this address is the same as the person who gave them such good business. He will ask for your credit card number, all the while telling you not to reveal the 3 digit pin code or the password. He will keep assuring you, that no cheating will be done, as this is just to verify that they are speaking to the right person , to send their yatra dot com branded watch

You will wonder what is the harm in giving this, as your credit card is still secure. You pay usual bills by writing the credit card number-- even mobile phone bills

He will also want to know the expiry date of the card and the Bank which issued it .

Then he will say that he have certain schemes for you , and then he will rattle off at least two dozen schemes -- which cannot be heard clearly over the back ground noise --like in a huge canteen . It cannot be a call centre as they don't give this type of human voice clutter. This schemes will be about discounts to shopping vouchers, international and domestic travel, holiday resort stays etc.

Then he will say that his boss will now go through the same procedure--and he will call within two minutes , again.

At no time will he tell you that you have to pay an amount of money to them.

After some time a SMS message will come to your mobile that a TRANSACTION OF RUPEES 6067 , HAS BEEN DONE USING YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER XXXXX AT YATRA DOT COM ELITE PROGRAMME.

When you call up the number from which you got a call from Yatra dot com-- a voice will say that no such number exists.

When you realise you have been cheated and call up your credit card company, they will say --" THIS IS NORMAL.  THIS IS A PROTOCOL.  SUCH MOBILE TELEPHONE BUSINESS IS CONDUCTED , AND WE PAY UP AS USUAL -- EVEN WITHOUT THE 3 DIGIT PIN CODE AND SECURITY PASSWORD, ON THE BASIS OF THE CREDIT CARD NUMBER YOU GAVE ON TELEPHONE AND BY YOUR "YES"  BY VOICE TO THEIR SCHEME".

It is obvious that yatra dot com , had extracted several YES answers from the victim , over the mobile, and   two taped conversations were edited.

The internet is FULL of yatra dot com scams and cheating stories.

Well all I can say, to these poor scamsters is please wait till the guillotine falls.  A hot and scratchy part of a dark cell is waiting for you.

You are being traced and watched --  the process is already on.

This is my promise to you.

i will DELETE this post after that, and cancel my preliminaries with CBI.

I saw your list of directors, they seem to be respectable people.

Be the way 85% of my readers are from abroad--you will lose business, as my posts have vast readership.

I have been constrained to hotlist my credit card.

  4. hi yatra dot com,

yes, i got a call today again from G.

i do NOT want S to be sacked-- as i feel he is naive, and these decisions come from higher chairs.

    you apology is accepted.

as soon as i get a refund , i will cancel the above blog post, which WILL dent your brand name irreversibly.

also i suggest you read the internet complaints about yatra dot com-- where hundreds of people have put their most bitter experiences.

i do hope you are a HR dept--and if you indeed have you, you need to give them a wake up call.

you cant talk to your customers on the phone for credit card telephone business , with so much background clutter, like in a third grade canteen feeding thousands.

i am sure you know that a credit card fraud is given same priority as cricket game rigging scams --it does NOT take 50 years , like a property dispute.

and the top honcho gets it on the neck-- like sexual harrasment cases--

as these are company POLICY matters--not mistakes made by a eager and young employee--

    thanks-gentlemen--

  14. I purchased Yatra Elite Rewards. They did not explain any terms and conditions like only 1 voucher can be used at a time, vouchers cannot be clubbed etc. Its only when I received the hard-copy, these terms and conditions were mentioned on them. There are other conditions like domestic air travel voucher can only be used on return flights that is not mentioned anywhere. Its a complete fraud.Kindly help us in getting our refund.

  15. hi ramesh,

suggest you contact yatra dot com, and tell them to give you a refund.

tell them you will take up the matter with police.

any credit card scam, is on "fast track" and the TOP men of yatra dot com gets it on the neck.

  16. First of all I would like to thank you Mr. Ajit Vadakayil for this useful information . I also had to face the same cheating. Yatra made fake promises and cheated many people like me. When I complained about this they said that they will cross check the audio conversation. Only god knows what they are going to find in audio tapes.
These cheaters must be punished. I want to make police complaint against this. I will be thankful to you if there will be any guidance from you.
    Thank you

  17. hi pravin,

YATRA DOT COM escaped from me because they refunded the money they siphoned off , and apologised.

but if they still continue to do the same , it shows that this fraud has the blessings of their board of directors.

i they do NOT refund your money fast, suggest you make a FIR and you can take a prinout of this post to support your FIR.

since you are from Mumbai, i suggest you go to CBI-

yatra dot com cannot do this alone unless they are hand in hand with the BANK of your credit card. what is the big idea in having a PIN and PASSWORD, if money can be stolen like this?

and mind you, this is a RECURRING thing. you will find soon , that they have siphoned off your money again , using the same TAPED telephone conversation-- (which is edited) , to show that you have authorised they verbally.

credit card scams are all FAST TRACK --and the top boss gets it on the neck--like sexual harrassment cases.

go ahead and put these yatra dot com scamsters behind bars.

  18. Thanks for your valuable suggestions. I have already disabled my credit card and applied for the new. The yatra team contacted me and told that they had given me the right information and i would not heard it clearly. I told them if i was agreed for all your terms why now i am complaining , is there any logic behind it ? They said that they will hear the tape again and contact me. I want to ask 1 thing how can be a recorded and edited conversation can be a legal proof? does courts allow this? I have approached few media persons to publish this entire scam. I have applied this particular transaction as disputed transaction to HDFC. How bank can give my money to any online merchant without consulting me. I am collecting more information regarding this scam and alert more and more people. Hope I could prevent it to some extent.

  19. hi praveen,

a recorded conversation where a yatra dot com employee is rattling off several schemes for flights and holiday homes , and asking you whether you can hear him --forcing you to say YES--all in high back ground noise means NOTHING.

no bank can give away you cash unless the credit card PIN and PASSWORD is entered.

so banks are also involved in this scam.

this way, you cannot go to the bathroom for a bath-- you have to take your credit card along.

vert soon a yatra dot com branded watch will come for you by courier-- REFUSE to accept it.

  20. Only 1 thing I want to confirm, does these audio clips have any legal stand ? Does our law allows this ?

    ReplyDelete
  21. hi pravin,

apparently in USA they can have a ONE TIME ONLY credit card booking protocol by mobile phone.

but this is in case the customer calls the party and orders a service -- not vice versa.

-- when someone is rattling off lot of fancy schemes, and NOT giving you a hint that they will siphon off your money.

  22. Hi all,
Same happened to me yesterday evening while I was in the nearby market. The law tune voice from Yatra asked me to respond to their business policies. I was replied once that I have to pay nothing for this new assignment. Finally they asked my credit card numbers and others. After discussing their activities with a friend he suggested me about this blog and here it has opened my eyes. Pl suggest to stop this credit card payment.

  23. hi surojit,

suggest you put a complaint to CBI.

this is a scam which is NOT possible unless the bank cooperates with yatra dot com.

  24. Thanx for ur suggestion. already asked bank people to stop payment without my confirmation.
I feel we should have legal support in this regard and consumer forum should come forward to stop such fraud activities spread throughout.
I also apply to register my mobile nos in national do not call registry. But don't how far it helps consumers from getting commercial phone calls.
